Case

Situation

Part 1

Conan, Ran, and Kazuha came to Toto Stadium, Tokyo, to watch Heiji's important kendo competition. As Heiji wins a fight with verve, his rival follows him closely behind: Soshi Okita, Shinichi's lookalike he met during a previous case. Heiji says to himself he can't but get even with Okita today, he has to win, for Kazuha. Meanwhile, Momiji and Iori are on the phone, Iori informing Momiji of Heiji's high rankings in the competition, while Momiji asks him if everything is ready for the "little party" after Heiji's victory. Iori adds Heiji may confront Okita and another kendo practitioner, "as strong as a demon".

Murder

Location: Kendo ring tournament in Tokyo Victim: Shido Nukitani Age: 43 years old Cause of death: Slit wound on the throat Suspects: Nenji Norimura, Tsuneyuki Yokote, and Akane Sadamori Nukitani swallows some digestion medicine as a Kyoto Senshin kendo student comes up to him. Nukitani says he expected someone to come along, as this garden serves as a training pitch for kendo fighters during pauses, and adds "he'd better not to do it for now, and not to damage the place". Suddenly, the kendo student grabs his sabre and slits Nukitani's thorat in one blow, in a flash, without him being just able to react. The murderer then turns around in fear as an old man sitting on a bench behind him says he heard a voice and asks if there's anyone around that could tell him what's happening. The murderer realises the old man is blind and spares his life, leaving the place.

Conan suggests they call the police and keep an eye on the bathroom, as the murderer may still be armed and has an accomplice. Conan is joined by a high school kendo practitioner he thought was Heiji but actually is Okita, who says Nukitani's absence of struggling reminds him of tsujigiris (wanton murders of random passers-by by samurais in the past, when they wanted to try out a new sabre's efficiency). He adds the sabre's blow was deadly, perfect and neat, the work of an expert. Okita introduces himself to Conan, saying he's from Kyoto Senshin kendo club - just like the murderer, something Conan is ignorant of.

Part 2

Attempted Prank

Heiji were able to solve the crime because of the hint about changing clothes and is now presenting his deduction to everyone.

The culprit is Nenji Norimura. He is the only one who could've committed the murder since the culprit was a ranked swordsman who deliberately put the skirt backwards to make people think it was someone who didn't know kendo and it matched Norimura's description. As Heiji explains his deduction, Kazuha and the Osaka school's team try to find Heiji so she tries to call Ran so they can return before the match begins but Ran skips the call.

Norimura then tries to explain he didn't have a box cutter himself so Heiji explains him it wasn't about a box cutter but rather that the "cutter" was bloody and useless and to bring him another one to which the blind Yasuoka confirms. In fact, the word "cutter" was in Kansai Dialect and it meant a dress shirt, it is revealed that Nukitani was talking to his wife on the phone and asking her to bring him another dress shirt since his' was bloody because, in a previous match where Okita was participating, his opponent pushed Nukitani so hard his nose bled.

His wife was currently on her way to bring him the shirt. Even if his shirt hadn't had blood on it, Norimura had planned to spill red ink on his shirt to make him come and lure him to kill him. The weapon was in fact his bamboo sword in which he used to make a sharp weapon by taking a single piece of bamboo and sharpened it and then swung it horizontally so the centrifugal force could cut someone's throat.

The sound people heard in the bathroom was in fact Norimura dulling the tip against the wall which meant that the proof (blood) will be easily found stuck in the inside of his sword bag. He then confesses and says he tried to wash it in the bathroom. Heiji laughs at Conan since he was the one who solved it. Norimura used a bamboo sword because he wanted to use his son's sword to avenge him.

Suicide (Past)
	Location: Norimura's house Victim: Nenji Norimura's son Age: Unknown Time: 2 years ago Cause of death: Hanging After winning a match two years ago, Norimura's son struck a victory pose which is illegal so he was punished and lost the match which was refereed by Nukitani. With a strong sense of justice, he decided to commit suicide out of guilt.

After winning a kendo match two years ago, Norimura’s son had accidentally struck a victory pose which is illegal to do after a kendo match had ended. As a result he was disqualified and lost the match, he felt such guilt because he had felt like he had let his entire school down all because of one simple mistake. As a result he decided to commit suicide out of guilt and as a form of redemption for his blunder.

Although distraught, He first thought that his suicide was not anything to have a grudge against the referee, Nukitani, but, In the tournament, he saw that Nukitani ignored the victory pose done by a student of Tohto Senshin High School. He then went to talk with him and he had showed favoritism since they were both from Kansai which made him want to kill Nukitani.

Okita then explains that the student was in fact brandishing a good luck charm that he gave him for the match and that it stuck out of his shirt. Nukitani then asked him to show him the charm and the student showed it which could look like a victory pose but it was not in fact. The student then cried so Nukitani comforted him and told him not to cry.

Norimura in shock denies saying that it's so lie and grabs the bamboo sword and runs towards Okita and Heiji to attack them but he is knocked out by Ran's karate kick before Heiji and Okita could move. With commenting how strong she is, Ran then quickly grabs them and brings them to the tournament leaving Sato and Takagi perplexed.

Attempted Murder
	Location: Kendo ring tournament in Tokyo Victim: Heiji Hattori, Soshi Okita, and Conan Edogawa Age: 7 years old (Conan) and 17 years old (Heiji and Okita) Attack types: Bashing Culprit: Nenji Norimura Norimura, in a fit of rage, tries to attack Heiji and Okita, but is stopped by Ran who knocks him out with a kick.

Aftermath

They arrive after running and Kazuha tells them that the match just ended and they lost by default making Namakoshi victorious. Momiji, then bothered by this humiliation, asks Iori to bring the car so they can leave. Okita blames Heiji for taking his time making a sweet deduction and Heiji blames Okita for his stupid Zatoichi deduction. Kazuha then gets upset and says she's had enough of detectives. Conan laughs and quotes that it's an awful way to live.

Trivia

• Momiji's car is a white 1955 Rolls Royce Silver Wraith Limousine. The license plate number is 東山 330, さ 5-25 (Higashiyama 330, Sa 5-25).

• Toyota Crown Sedan 2012 and Nissan Caravan NV350 2018 of the police parked in front of the ring. The license plate numbers are 新宿 800, ひ 47-62 (Shinjuku 800, Hi 47-62) and 新宿 800, こ 16-95 (Shinjuku 800, Ko 16-95).

• The suspects are named after swordsmiths:

• Shido Nukitani (抜谷 士道) is named after the Dōtanuki (同田貫) school of swordsmiths;
• Katsunari Yasuoka (安岡 克成) is named after Yasutsuna (安綱), a swordsmith of the Heian period (AD 795-1185);
• Nenji Norimura (法村 稔司) is named after swordsmith Norimune (則宗), who created Soshi Okita's favourite sword, the Kiku-ichimonji;
• Tsuneyuki Yokote (横手 恒之) is named after Kōtetsu (虎徹), who supposedly made Kondō Isami's sword (in fact made by Minamoto Kiyomaro and then faked by Hosoda Naomitsu);
• Akane Sadamori (定森 朱音) is named after Kanesada (兼定), who made Hijikata Toshizō's word;
• Kurahiko Namakoshi (生越 倉彦) is named after the Namakura-gatana (なまくら刀), a sword in the eponymous 1917 anime, one of the first examples of film animation in Japan;
• On the chart of opponents is also seen Keiji Aso (麻生圭二) and Masaki Negishi (根岸 正樹), two of Gosho Aoyama's assistants.

Manga to anime changes

• At the end of the episode, Momiji sips her tea prepared by Iori, and comments that it is delicious. The comment was not in the manga.
