<spoiler>Conan tranquilizes Yamamura and impersonates him using his voice changing bow tie to reveal that the murderer is the university student '''Kazuya Itabashi'''. Conan reveals that during the snow storm, Kazuya used salt to harden the snowman he was working on. He then called Sakuko to his room where he drowned her in his sink which contained the water from the lake. Afterwords, he attached Sakuko's snow shoes on and placed her in the body of the hardened snowman and rolled her into the lake. He then used the Detective Boy's snowman to rebuild a new body for the snowman. As evidence, Conan reveals that the Detective Boy's snowman had their detective badges, which are now found in Kazuya's snowman. He also declares that the forensic team should find traces of lake water or Sakuko's DNA in Kazuya's sink. Kazuya confesses to the crime revealing that Sakuko purposely disabled Asaka Onoe, one of the other university students, out of envy; this sparked Kazuya's murder in the name of vengeance.</spoiler>

Situation

Part 1

The Detective Boys are at a small ski resort. Conan had told Haibara and the professor about the case, Touji who witness Kir's accident and that Vermouth learn about it. It turns out that the man, who was hired by the murderer for the strange garbage job was a big fan of Mizunashi Rena and ran a homepage about her. On it he had written about meeting Touji who talked about the accident after seeing the man's stadium jumper with Kir's picture on it. Both Vermouth and Eisuke Hondou have read the web journal and seek out to meet the boy and question him about the accident. So now both Hondou and the organization knows that Kir has been injured and is probably in a hospital. The detective boys meet up with four university students who are building a snowman for an art project. Later that evening, Sakuko Kokura, one of the university students, becomes lost in the blizzard and the two groups begin their search for her. Conan finds Kokura dead at the bottom of a cliff in a lake.
