Story
Kaito, Aoko, and Akako went to see Gunter Von Goldberg II's greatest illusion show. During one of his shows, he was able to create an illusion of a beautiful field and children from the audience being raised into the sky and turned into cherubs. Aoko was so surpised and couldn't figure out the illusionist's trick. Kaito thinks it's probably a mixture of digital effects and hypnosis.
That night, Kaitou Kid announces that he will steal the biggest bronze statue with the purple-eyed gem at Ekoda Natural History Museum.

The police inspector from the Kaitou Kid task force, Ginzo Nakamori prepares his team of police officers for Kid's arrival. There's eight helicopters flying around and over two hundred officers guarding from the tower. It is now airing on television. Everyone is watching television including Aoko and Keiko. Nakamori hesitates with the time by synchronizing his watch, and is interrupted by the date and time down to the millisecond. Saguru Hakuba has arrived, with a silver pocketwatch, inverness coat, and high attention to detail. Nakamori recognizes Saguru Hakuba from the news, but dismisses him as an amateur until Superintendent General Hakuba, the head of the Tokyo police force and Saguru's father, persuades Nakamori to show his son the ropes of real police work. Convinced to work with Saguru Hakuba, Nakamori offers to answer any questions, only to be interrogated about details regarding Kid that no one has answers to. However, Hakuba has no interest of catching Kaitou Kid.
Hakuba found one yellow thread near the bronze statue. He confirms that there's no doubt it's Spider. His goal is to capture Spider.
In the basement, Kid came out of the vent. He used the goggles to see some laser security grid. Kid uses the suction cup gun and shoots. The suction cup is now on the ceiling. Kid climbs up carefully while not touching the laser security grid. Until sudden, the great detective Hakuba appears. Hakuba releases the anesthetic gas and he's about to put the gas mask on. Kid uses the card gun to shoot on the gas mask and tried to get it. Kid and Hakuba are struggling each other to get the gas mask. The time is counting down for Kid's appearance.
The smoke comes from the floor and Hakuba appears. He declares that Kid has been arrested. Every viewers are now shocked. Hakuba then tells Nakamori that Kid is sleeping in the basement. Nakamori orders the officers to go there and arrest him. The newsreporter asks Hakuba how does it feel to capture Kid. After Hakuba answered it was easy, the balloon appears on his back. At the basement, the police found the real Hakuba unconscious. The police report to Nakamori that it's Hakuba, not Kid. The fake Hakuba now reveals himself as Kid. He went on top of the statue, hold the statue with his legs, and tries to get away with the balloon. Unfortunately, the statue's been linked with the chain to the floor. So now, Kid got the purple gem from the statue's right eye and checks for Pandora to the moonlight. There's no Pandora and he declares he will be returning it back. He let the statue go and flies away with the balloon. The police helicopters are going after Kid.
The police on the top tower are about to go back inside, but they got knocked out with anesthetic gas. Kaitou Kid appears and it seems that Kid with the balloon is a decoy. Suddenly, the suspicious three red-eyed character appears with the strange illusion powers. His name is Spider. He uses his illusion generating machinery to create a nightmarish realm which Kaitou Kid cannot escape. Hakuba manages to snap Kaitou Kid out of his trance before Spider could finish Kid off. Spider then turns his attention to Hakuba. Spider made Hakuba floats and attempts to murder him by throwing a needle. Kid deflects the needle with his card gun which he saves Hakuba's life. The distraction gives Kid the chance to destroy Spider's illusion generating machinery and force him to flee. Kid also flees when the police arrive. Hakuba now decides to stay in Japan.
