Case

Situation

Part 1

A serial arsonist sets huge fires across the city and Takagi and Sato with the Detective Boys are out to solve it.

Arson
	Location: Yotsuya Culprit: Serial arsonist This is the fifth arson case in the metropolitan area. The first four arson cases are, in this order, Ikebukuro, Asakusabashi, Tabata, and Shimokitazawa.

It turns out this is also the day the case of Sato's father's death will be annulled, and the bank robber will be able to keep the money he/she stole from the bank.

Robbery - Murder (Past)
	Location: Bank Victim: Masayoshi Sato Cause of death: Gunshot wound Suspects: Hidero Saruwatari, Shuji Kano, Mitsuo Inomata, and Choko Kandori The robber killed a security officer while escaping from the bank.

Sato sets out to solve both cases before the day ends, but Takagi has been attacked by the arsonist.

After Haibara reveals the pattern of the arsonist’s attacks, Ayumi, Genta, and Mitsuhiko spot the arsonist and follow him. They witness him set fire to a seemingly abandoned warehouse, and are ambushed by him who tries to kill them.

Kidnapping
	Location: Warehouse Victim: Ayumi Yoshida Culprit: Serial arsonist

Takagi is revealed to be inside the warehouse the arsonist set fire to. He decides to use his gun to break the handcuffs, but realizes that he can't due to them being a memento from Sato's dead father. Conan and Haibara manage to arrive in time and stop the arsonist, but does not realize Takagi is in the burning warehouse.

Meanwhile, the clock strikes midnight and the suspected bank robber, Shuji Kano, explains everything to Sato, explaining how her father died saving his life after he tried to kill himself. Sato reveals that due to the typhoon delaying his flight back from Italy, the statute of limitations expiry date was moved back by one day. When Sato asks Kano where Takagi is, he tells her he placed him in a abandoned warehouse which Sato realizes is the same one that is currently burning down in flames.

Sato arrives at the fire, but Megure and Shiatori say it’s too late but Sato tries to run it but to her horror it collapses. Takagi seemingly dies but appears with his handcuffs attached to the window bars. He collapses in Sato's arms exhausted, Sato wonders why Takagi didn’t break the handcuffs with his gun. Conan and Haibara explain that he did so because he knew how much those particular handcuffs meant to her, leaving Sato touched by his kindness.

As Takagi had successfully solved the case of her father's death, Sato honors her promise to grant a single request. Though a bit embarassed, Takagi asks her out on a date. Unfortunately, she doubles it with work in order to tail a suspect. Takagi is less than ecstatic about the turn of events.

Trivia

• Sato refers to breaking her handcuffs in a previous case.
