Conan, Haibara and the Detective Boys run into a drug dealer who is being chased by the police. The drug dealer looses his notebook and Conan finds that there's a code inside about a drug exchange which is going to take place that same day. In order to stop it, they'll first need to solve the code and find the location and exact time. Conan mentions to Haibara that he emailed Sera (offscreen) asking about the Unknown child, to which she responds as the girl told her, that "she is his sister from another domain". He asks Haibara what that might mean, but she does not know.

With the help of Heiji, they found out that the exchange is going to take place in Osaka. Heiji runs to the place and finds that Kazuha is there talking with one of the suspects. Heiji starts a fight against drug agents (mistaken as dealers) because they took Kazuha away from the meeting place. After clearing the misunderstanding, Kazuha asks Heiji about his words. Heiji avoids the discussion by pointing the lack of evidence. Conan is shown to have a recording of his words.

Conan and the Detective Boys are participating into a kite-flying competition when one of the contestants falls into the river.

Conan finds out that the man falling into the river wasn't an accident but a murder attempt. The main suspects are: the man's wife (who he was on the phone at the moment of the crime), his partner, and one of the contestants whose sister was having and affair with him. Haibara loves to hear Yoko Okino's songs due to the fact that Ryusuke Higo likes them too.

Conan, Haibara, Agasa and the Detective Boys spend the weekend at a cottage with the three sisters who own it and the little sister's boyfriend. After dinner, the little sister realized she ran out of medicine and her boyfriend volunteers to walk through the storm to bring her more. Once the storm has ended, everyone decides to look for him since he was taking too long, and they find him dead on the snow.

Mouri is targeted by a killer who is after Kimura. Mouri accidentally took his jacket at a bar and now the killer is trying to kill him. Conan finds out that Kimura is not who he seems to be. Kimura is said to be at a lake and Mouri goes to investigate. There he is seemingly shot by the culprit but, in fact, Conan has set a dummy in Mouri's place. The culprit reveals his motive was revenge.

When returning from shopping, Haibara finds that a kitten she likes is in trouble (tied near the entry of a house) and hurries to help him. While doing so, she's abducted into the house.

Conan and the Detective Boys run into a man who had a knife in his hand and was being chased by a police officer. The man grabs Ayumi and faints while whispering something into her ear. Conan and the Detective Boys accompany the man and the police to the hospital and learn that he had some contusion on his head and the police officer was chasing him because he seemed suspicious.

Eri is hospitalized due to appendicitis. While being at the hospital, Kogoro and Conan run into Bourbon. At the same time, a patient was having a tea party with three friends when one of them is poisoned. Once he learns that Eri has undergone surgery, Kogoro rushes to the hospital worried about her. Bourbon asks Conan about Kusuda Rikumichi. Bourbon used to be called "Zero".

Bourbon and Conan help with the investigation and arrive to the conclusion that the culprit must have switched her cup with the victim in order to poison her. There is one problem though: each one of them is drinking a tea of a different color. Takagi shares information about Kusuda Rikumichi being a patient at Haido Central Hospital and about the bloodstains found inside his car. Bourbon is scolded by a woman that looks similar to Elena Miyano.

Jirokichi Suzuki receives a letter from Kaitou Kid which reveals that Kid plans on opening Jirokichi's impenetrable safe, the Iron Tanuki. The letter however is not written in Kid's usual style raising the ideal that an imposter is after Jirokichi's safe. Sonoko invites Ran, Kogoro, and Conan to Jirokichi's house. After examining the security of the safe, Kaitou Kid's card, in its usual style, is found confirming Kaitou Kid's plan to open the safe. Conan suspects that Kaitou Kid is one of the three newly hired workers of Jirokichi. Jirokichi however countinues to proclaim it to be the work of an imposter, causing Conan to suspect Jirokichi's behavior. Kaitou Kid goes after Suzuki's safe.

The nearly hired maid and adviser inform Conan of Jirokichi's strange behavior. They reveal that after dinner, two places are always missing and Jirokichi always brings his cane with him to the safe. Jirokichi asks the maid for a hand and they head to his room. Jirokichi leaves with his bodyguard for a drive. Shortly after, an unconscious Jirokichi is found tied up and his room and a note of Kaitou Kid is found on the safe. This causes the whole police force that are guarding the safe to abandon their position and chase after "Jirokichi". Conan meanwhile enters the room with the safe revealing the maid was Kaitou Kid in disguise. Conan reveals the first message by "Kaitou Kid" was actually done by Jirokichi asking for Kaitou's kid assistance. Conan also reveals Jirokichi purposely placed suspicion on himself in order to clear the area of cops so Kaitou Kid can open the safe. Inside the safe is revealed to be Jirokichi's dog, Lupin. Kid does a favor for Suzuki.

Conan meets up with the kidnappers and just when he was about to defeat them, the Detective Boys arrive and are captured. The kidnappers leave and then set the room on fire. While at the concert, the Detective Boys accidentally start the music too early, and if stopped it will anger the crowd even more. Conan tries to sing but that angers the crowd. The singer then takes the Detective Boys out with her to sing.

Yukio Kanzaki, who is a clerk of Beikado Supermarket, was warned a killing twice. He asked chief Katsumi Utagawa's advice. Then, Utagawa suggested Kanzaki should visit a detective agency. Kanzaki and Utagawa went to the Mouri Detective Agency. Kogoro investigated people who are think ill of Kanzaki, however, the people were not found. Kogoro thought the warning was a prank call. Next day, Kanzaki was going to disguise as Bekapon, however, he had a stomachache, so clerk Gyosuke Shimomura disguised instead Kanzaki. However, a attempted murder case was happened, and a victim was Shimomura as Bekapon. When the case was happened, the criminal was saying "Die, Kanzaki!"

It turns out that the Detective Boys end up involved in a case again and the three suspects fit each one of the descriptions about Rum. Ai Haibara gives Conan some information about Rum.
