Situation

While humming the song "Nazo", Ayumi jogs toward school, but as she passes by the Makabe residence, she sees a man carrying a woman. Both people look injured, and Ayumi, peeking through the bushes, believes the man killed the woman.

The whole affair (much to Ayumi and Conan's embarrassment) turns out to be a major misunderstanding. There was no murder - or other crime - going on in the Makabe house, but yet a medical emergency: Unknown to Ayumi, Yuri Makabe was in the last stage of her pregnancy. (Because she had miscarried once, Yuri had decided not to tell anyone until she was sure that the baby would be born healthy.) When the water broke, an unusual amount of blood was released, hence the stains the Detective Boys found on the doll and beneath the bed. However, Jun managed to get his wife to the hospital just in time; Yuri has delivered without any complications and was spending the last few days in the hospital to recover.

When Jun brought Ayumi into the mountains, he was really taking her to his wife's hospital for treatment and recovery. In addition, the mystery woman was not, as the Detective Boys surmised, Jun's mistress, but his sister who was likewise worried about her sister-in-law.

Despite all the inconveniences the junior detectives have caused, the Makabes are not mad at the children and even graciously allow Ayumi to hold the child and come visiting whenever she wants. The only sad note to the story is that this turbulent case has caused Conan to miss out on the release of the latest Detective Samonji novel.

• In April 2015, this episode was going to be Episode 778.
• At the beginning of the episode, Ayumi can be heard humming the 3rd and 41st opening, "Nazo."
