The next day, the client returns saying that someone from the café has listed her ticket on some auction webpage. One of the employees hasn't come to work, so Conan, Ran, Sonoko, the client and another employee decides to go to her apartment to speak with her. When they arrive, they found the door unlocked, the apartment all messed up, and the girl dead.

In a dark room, a thief is frantically looking through an office for something. When he finds it, he smiles and cuts open a bear. The next day, the Detective Boys go to Kumamoto with Ran and Kogoro for a sightseeing trip. Kumamoto is known as the capital of water for its amazing water sources, but it's also known as the country of fire for its volcanoes. The group arrives at the Aso Volcano museum, where Ran bumps into a boy, named Justin Takamori. Ran calls Justin cute, and Justin calls Ran even cuter and winks at her. He then adds tat she is in second place as his mommy, Jessica Takamori is in first place. Justin then shows the kids his stamp book of all the tourists spots he has already been to so far.

Conan and the Detective Boys are playing soccer when they meet the calico cat, Taii, who frequently comes to Café Poirot for food. They follow the cat into a refrigerated delivery truck where the kids stumble on to a body in a box. The drivers killed the man and are doing their route to establish an alibi as the cold will alter the time of death.

Although the Detective Boys have not been discovered by the delivery men, the cold begins to affect them, as Mitsuhiko even collapses from giving his sweater to Haibara. Conan uses a receipt to write a message and releases Taii from the truck with it stuck in its collar, hoping that Bourbon will find it and realize what is going on. As he has given Haibara his jacket, Mitsuhiko faints from coldness. In order to warm him, Haibara puts him inside the jacket. When he wokes up and realizes that he's sharing a jacket with Haibara (knowing that she's only wearing a shirt and her underwear under the jacket), he blushes. Bourbon saves Detective Boys from the delivery men, and Subaru is shown watching him suspiciously.

One night at Mouri Detective Agency, while Kogoro is reading about horse racing on a newspaper, Ran, Sonoko, and Conan are watching "Which Sweets Show", a television program where two chefs compete to see who makes better sweets. Today, the defending champion, Shuuhei Kurimura, wins again, making him the winner for six weeks in a row. Thanks to Sonoko's father's connections, Ran, Sonoko, and Conan can watch the preview from the show's gallery next week. Sonoko, who needs to invite five people, baits Kogoro, who she needs to escort them, to come as well, by stating Yoko Okino will be one of the judges for next week's program. She is stuck on the last person to invite, and Ran's mother, Eri, cannot come because she has work. Conan tries to ask something secretly from Sera.

The police, Kogoro, Conan, Masumi, Terafumi, Toshihide, and Wataru are in the surveillance room, where they see Shoutoku enter the storeroom last night at 9:05. In the camera film, the next person that enters the room is the producer Toshihide Taruoka, who states he was checking to see if the chest arrived; after all, he is fully responsible if the its contents are leaked out. According to him, he was in that room for 30 minutes because he was searching for the chest. At 10:20, Wataru Furuya and two other AD's arrive in front of the storeroom. Wataru says he was in there for quite a while because he was smoking while checking his text messages after he quickly checked the chest. At 10:54, he came out of the room. After that, Terafumi Kasuga entered the storeroom and was in there for about half an hour to check the TV station's lock and take photos to show Shoutoku. He tells the police the chest was fully locked and so he went home after that. Nobody went in the storeroom the next day before the staff members took the chest, so those three people are the only ones that have a chance to commit the murder. Conan asks Sera if they ever meet before but refused by Sera to answer.

The episode begins with Mouri Kogoro, Ran, and Conan watching the ending of an old movie staring retired actress Misuzu Shirakawa at the actress's home. As the trio tour the home with the actress, her three children, and the maid, they are surprised to witness consistent quarreling in the household with Misuzu Shirakawa being the unpleasant one. As the afternoon draws close, the actress retires to her bedroom for an afternoon nap, a car accident occurs outside, and then smoke emerges from the bedroom.

It is revealed that Naeko and Sakurako are childhood friends, though Naeko asserts that she is a year older than Sakurako. Yumi's ex-boyfriend is explored in this case.

Megure, Chiba and Takagi start investigating, and the darker than expected dynamics of the families start coming to the surface. There are three prospect murderers: Miho's brother and only relative Yoshifumi (he is knee-deep in debts and desperately needs to pay them off), Masaru's older sister Rikako (has always resented him for being the leader of the family despite her being the eldest), and Masaru's cousin Arisa (who was in love with him and very jealous of Miho). In the meantime Conan starts snooping and asking around, getting hold of the info he needs to see which of the three is the killer! Bourbon and Vermouth disguise as a married couple and collect intelligence about Shuichi Akai and Conan's actions during Clash of Red and Black. The Detective Boys, Conan, Haibara, and Agasa visit the circus where a famous man is performing. Later, they meet up with a man who looks strikingly like the man from the circus. However, the man, named James Black, an American is later accidentally mistaken for the real person, and is kidnapped and held for ransom. The kidnappers plan to kill Black after they get the money. However, upon finally realizing that Black is not the man they were after, they decide to kidnap him, anyway. The only clue left behind by Black was that he wrote "P&A" on the ground by where he was kidnapped. Can Conan solve the case? James Black's first appearance. Haibara says that James is giving her a weird feeling and James seems to be acting too calmly being kidnaped plus some other obvious hints

Conan figures out, with the help of Sato, Takagi, and Yumi, what "P&A" means. They realize that the kidnappers are in a police car, and are masquerading as police officers. Conan, Sato, Takagi, Yumi, and other members of the police force use this to their advantage, and completely corner the kidnappers, saving Black. The mysterious man named Shuichi Akai is shown driving James Black away from the scene later, as Black remarks on how Conan is no ordinary boy. James and Shuichi seem to be working together and James refers to Conan by the name "Cool Guy" Because the photo of Conan in the Vermouth room's says this name.

After realizing he has deduced and given her the wrong location, Kogoro tries calling her home number but realize she gave him a fake number. Kogoro call her cellphone number and she picks up. Kogoro gives her the correct location, Bell Tree Tower, to Kaori.

Conan and his friends were playing Frisbee at the park, when a dog named Matsunosuke launched off of Conan's head and caught the Frisbee. Matsunosuke's owner, Kanae Asakawa, apologized and took Conan's jacket in order to get it cleaned after Matsunosuke left dirt all over it. The next day when Conan and the Detective Boys arrived at her house to get the jacket they met Kanae's friend Tomoko and see Matsunosuke in his dog house, asleep.

Kogoro is undercover at the Blue Parrot, because Yuzuki Fukui asked him to investigate on a weird sound she hears frequently. Conan joins him, saying that Ran is angry because Kogoro is not home. But a simple investigation in a bar becomes more dramatic when Chikafumi Usuda, an office worker, is found dead. In this episode, Kogoro tries to investigate who is always solving the case while he asleep.

Kogoro is invited to the house of Kotaro Ichikawa of Ichikawa Industries to investigate his two daughters, Kazue and Mizue, for inheritance purposes. After going to the washroom, Conan catches Kazue injecting poison into a bottle of wine, but he is captured and locked in the wine cellar by an unknown attacker. He escapes to find out Kotaro died after drinking wine and Kazue is taken away by the police. Conan discovers Kotaro never drank the wine and the doctor was the true killer after viewing a recording of the murder caught on camera.

As Conan and Ran are waiting for a meeting with Eri, they meet Masumi, who is investigating Rumi Kitao's boyfriend, Kenya Settsu, about adultery. Thinking that Kenya will make a move upon seeing Ran, Masumi has Conan and Ran approach the couple upon the pretense of needing a meal. However, Kenya doesn't seem to be interested in Ran and asks Ran to accompany Rumi to wake Waka, Kenya's ex-girlfriend. Rumi and Ran has to open Waka's apartment with a key when no one answers. Later, Ran finds Waka on the bathroom floor, but she collapses herself due to chlorofoam in the air. Conan has a bad feeling that Black Organization will attack him or Haibara now. Bourbon stalks Conan as he makes a phone call to Haibara.

Kogoro, Ran, and Conan are out walking when a robbery occurs. Conan and Kogoro are able to take down the robber and hand him to the police. A crowd gathered to watch the scene and Kogoro's friend, Yumi recognizes him. After talking about the judo class reunion that is to take place that day, she leaves. While turning back, Conan and Kogoro realize the gun the robber had is missing. That night at the reunion, they plan to go out and watch fireworks. Kogoro's friends did not go leaving only Conan, Kogoro, and Ran. Yumi is missing from dinner so the judo members go to her room to wake her up from her sleep. There, they find her dead from a gunshot wound to the head and in her hand was the missing gun from before. Kogoro realizes that burn marks are missing from Yumi's temple meaning that it was a murder and one of the judo members is the suspect. First appearance of Jun Omura. Kogoro meets with his old friends.

Conan recognizes two things strange about Yumi's body; the finger was not on the trigger and she was naked under her robe. Conan then realizes who the murderer is and plans to tranquilize Kogoro to solve the case. Realizing how determined Kogoro is on solving the case, Conan instead decides to drop subtle hints and let Kogoro solve the case. Kogoro solves the case, revealing that Yumi died much earlier and that exercise from table tennis caused her body to undergo rigor mortis much earlier. He reveals that the judo member who murdered Yumi was Kazushi Nakamichi. Nakamichi revealed that he was dating Yumi for eighteen years and he proposed to her multiple time but she always turned him down. When he became engaged to another woman, Yumi terrorized them both with threats. He revealed that he picked up the gun from the robbery earlier, seeing it as a sign to murder Yumi. Kogoro meets with his old friends.

After while,when Mitsuhiko is filming the seas, the man and his wife happened to run the small yacht and the man jumps off the sea and swim but then was drowned.Is it an accident or...,a Murder,?

Ayumi came to school one night to find a masked man. She told the vice-principal about it and he became absent for the last two days and the other teachers are acting suspicious. The Detective Boys sneak into the school at night where they find puppets with their names on it, mannequins and statues being moved, and someone trying to scare them with red paint and dry ice. The Detective Boys pretend to be scared and hide in the bathroom. When they come out, they find their teacher, Ms. Kobayashi, secretly practicing for the parent meet. However, she claims to not have tried to scare them off and they realize that someone else is indeed in the school. However, it is actually the vice-principal who lost his toupee and had been searching for it for the last two nights. First appearance of Sumiko Kobayashi and Ryujiro Uematsu.

Something in the house looks a little different after the tragedy: looks like the culprit used peculiarities in the construction of the house to assist his/her alibi.

Conan, Ran, Sonoko and Masumi are walking through the woods as Masumi explains the reason for their excursion, that she has been asked by her brother to visit his former classmates in order to solve a case, as well as the fact that herself, and both her older brothers have different surnames. Sonoko and Ran spot a red woman lurking in the woods and describe her to the group, which is interrupted by Conan falling and discovering a swamp.

With the arrival of the Nagano police, the murder case and details, such as the fact that no blood traces where found in the bathroom is explained to Yui Uehara, who remembers Conan from earlier cases. As the other guests are in distraught over Masaie's death, their whereabouts are told to Yui, Tamami was preparing dinner, Sumika was cleaning rooms and Jinsuke went shopping. It is mentioned that the water was coloured green-ish due to the bath salts, Masaie lost conscious due to a head injury caused by dumbbells, which also kept his body under water, which wasn't visible due to the floating tomatoes in the bathtub.

Yui Uehara, Masami and Conan conduct a search in the rooms of the guests, to no avail, since they don't fine knife-like objects or wigs. While they consider Sumika faking the attack on her, the duo clears up the possibility due to the nature of her cut, which was horizontal. A woman is seen lurking outside again, which, although not connected, startles Uehara after her being mentioned.The group checks some pictures which point to the red hints of all the previous 'pranks'. In one the pictures, Satoko is seen wearing a cardigan, to which Yui points out that on the day she was found she was wearing a red coat. She points out that the ones who found the knife 3 years ago were Kansuke Yamato and Taka'aki Morofushi, while they were still attending police academy. Morofushi was sure that the bones which were found belonged to the red woman, while Yamato was opposed to the idea, even after it had been proven, he refused to accept it. This is the first appearance of Unknown child on Masumi's phone.

After an unlucky while at the pachinko salon, Kogoro who walks about sees Conan at a small police office near a train station. He walks in angrily only to find out that Conan was there only to return a found wallet. As they are about to leave the well-known comedian Rokusuke Dodonpa (real name: Rokusuke Tanigaki) walks in and announces to have murdered his chief.

Ran went to a karate tournament so Conan and Kogoro eat breakfast without her. Rokusuke's apology is publicly broadcasted via television, and when Conan's mentioning about how much of a good person he must be, to take the blame in order to protect his boss' honor, Kogoro says that he'll probably be swarmed with contracts from new agents, making the whole situation look even more fishy.

Conan, Ran, Sonoko and Masumi walk down the street while talking about the red woman case. They ask her about her self defense techniques, to which she says that her brother used to send her tapes which she watched many times. She tells them that her mother still lives in the United States, which is a reason why she's now staying in a hotel, since her brother didn't want them to live together. Sonoko makes a remark about the cost of living in a hotel, but Masumi tells her that a friend of her father is taking care of it. The groups makes the decision to visit the hotel she is staying at, after which she cancels plans which she had to meet up with her brother. While Ran, Sonoko,Masumi and Conan are having a tea party , the girls are talking about their relationship. When Masumi asks Conan about the girl he doesn't forget and Conan can't answer, Sonoko tell that he (Conan) ends with Ayumi but Ran said that she thought Conan likes Haibara making Conan shocked. When Ran asks Conan face to face, Conan blushed and said to himself"it's you"'

Takagi asks Conan and Masumi if they have taken shampoo bottle caps away from the crime scene, but they haven't, since they only reached the door and didn't go further. He also mentions that somebody has thrown over the table, which landed in the victim's suitcase in the room with beer which was spilled in it. He mentions that the suitcase was quite large, even though there weren't many things in it - clothing, make up, a laptop, a bag and an old post card. The twenty year old post cast was written by Hiura, stating that if he was to use the story he would use the recipient's name for the protagonist. It was addressed to Outa Jun. Ran quickly mentions that Outa Jun is, in fact, the name of the protagonist in the author's book "The cellphone, the sea and I". She quickly explains the plot of the book to the group. A scratched mobile phone is found on the beach, a model which hasn't been released yet, with the message "How old are you?", after a few exchanges via messages between the person who found the phone and the one who was sending the messages, it can be concluded that the person is sending messages from the future. The answer to the question who was sending the messages was "The cellphone, the sea and I", which the protagonist at first didn't understand, but soon she replied with the exact message. The meaning of that message is to be revealed in the new book. After finding a bug in a pair of glasses by which she is impressed, the unknown child tells Masumi that she doesn't trust Conan yet, but should the moment arise, Masami can tell Conan that she is her little sister from outside the territory.

Conan, Ran and Kogoro arrive in Kanazawa via train and as they leave the station they see the Tsuzumimon gate. Kogoro has been asked to participate in the Kaga-Hyakumangoku mystery tour. Yuzo Tanimoto, a tourism association employee introduces himself first, followed by Moeko Miyazawa who also works for the association, Yuya Tadokoro, an event manager and Osamu Kuranishi and Harumi Akiyama who both also are employees for the association. After having received each business card, Kogoro introduces himself as the great detective and prepares to hand out his golden business cards.

Near the castle they spot Akiyama on the floor, bludgeoned as Osamu runs towards her. He yells at the rest to call an ambulance and Conan observes that this might have been just a case of mugging, since her handbag is open and lying on the floor, but if it was just a random case then there should be more victims, concluding that the culprit must have targeted Akiyama.

Because Professor Agasa's bath is broken, Conan, Ran, and Haibara head for a bath house. While there, he notices a suspicious man opening a locker. Conan catches a glimpse of what is inside, and the man closes it quickly. While thinking about the man, Conan slips and hits his head on the ground. Before he could stand up, the suspicious man walked over to him and covered his mouth with a towel. Conan slowly fell unconscious. Then, the suspicious man and his partner say they're going to take Conan to a hospital and put him in their car.
