The "Bearded guy with sunglasses" was Hitoshi Yuda in a disguise, and Maya was a hitwoman that he hired to kill Kogoro for "revealing" him as the killer of his wife. She lost her memories when she got involved in a traffic accident and hit her head; midway through the episode she recovered it, specially after Yuda kept trying to kill Kogoro himself; Maya then decided to pretend she was still amnesiac, both to set the deal with Yuda and then finish her mission of killing Kogoro.

Maya's weapon was a strong floss, which she used to strangle her victims; she managed to trap Kogoro and use the floss to hang him in a makeshift gallow. By then, Conan had already notified the police and then used his super sneakers to kick a can towards Maya, forcing her to release Kogoro.
