However, Conan reveals that there are scratch marks around the spot where the bolder laid revealing that someone wedged the boulder out of its placement and that it was a premeditated murder. The suspects are Umezu's secretary, his two daughters, and the onsen manager. After further investigation, Conan tranquilizes Kogoro and reveals the murderer to be onsen manager, Koichi Maekawa. Conan reveals that Umezu was actually drowned and was dead before the boulder rolled down the hill, evidenced by the dirt under Umezu's fingernails, a sign that he was struggling. Conan then explains the boulder was used to create an alibi for Maekawa. Conan points out that the boulder was held in place by a wooden block which was connected to a line with a buoy at the end. When the tide lowered, the buoy pulled the wooden block and caused the boulder to roll off. Maekawa confesses and reveals that the president was pressuring him to sell the land to the onsen and that Umezu also pressured Maekawa's father which indirectly resulted in his death.}}

Shiratori reveals that he is in love with Sato because of an encounter he had with her in the past. Shiratori explains that Sato, as a young girl, stood up to two thieves by herself; Shiratori helped her stop the thieves and in return, received from her a drink with paper folded sakura, setting up an encounter that changed his whole life. Ai questions whether that girl was actually Sato, as their personalities differ greatly. During the movie, Shiratori runs into a woman named Nami Kasakura who offers him a drink with paper folded sakuras, causing him to consider the possibility she was the girl in the past and not Sato. After the movie, Kasakura tells Shiratori she is being stalked and asks him to investigate. At her apartment, Kasakura's boyfriend Yoshiro Soumei is found dead. Conan realizes that if one stands in the right spot the blades will not harm you and that one of the blades actually has a handle allowing him to swing over towards the sword. The sword contains the last clue, which leads everyone back to the pond. Mitsuhiko accidentally discovers that the diamond is at the bottom of the pond. The first treasure hunter dives in after it while the second pulls a gun planning to kill everyone and take the diamond for herself. Conan is able to tranquilizer her, but when the treasure hunter comes back up with the diamond the spring starts to pour into the pond causing a massive flood. The only way to stop the flood is to put the diamond back. The old lady turns out to be Kaitou Kid who knew all along that the diamond was unable to be stolen, and Conan allows him to escape on his hang-glider.

Before heading to the warehouse to investigate, the Detective Boys drop by Conan's house where they run into an unknown person unbeknownst to Conan. During the warehouse investigation, Conan notices that there were recently made footprints from an adult even though the warehouse has been locked up for years and that the footprints lead up to an abacus with an odd number of beads. Conan decides to look through the warehouse by climbing a tree and looking through a window and sees the treasure their classmate was talking about. When they enter the warehouse through the front door, the Detective Boys discover the warehouse is in the same state as when they entered it. While Conan deduces that there might be a mechanism in the roof or in the floor, the Detective Boys prove him wrong declaring that the distance between the window and the roof is two meters from the outside and inside and that the markers they placed on the floors did not change. The marker leaning against the wall, however, has disappeared, causing Conan to wonder what the mechanism in the warehouse is.}}

The Detective Boys reveal that Sumiko's testimony was correct, and that she mistaken Kodama to be a woman in the alley due to his long hair and the position of his arm making him seem as if he had breasts. Conan explains the woman's voice that was heard belonged to the victim, and that 09 was actually OS and stood for the first two letters of Osaka Nico Nico transportation; Shiratori reveals that they questioned the truck driver who saw the victim and Kodama entering the alley. Kodama confesses and explains that Sumida planned to kill Kodama to receive money from his life insurance to settle his debt and murdered her in self defense. Shiratori counters this, and the wording he uses unlocks Sumiko's memories from their shared past, leading to a love confession and their romantic relationship. The next day Jirokichi Suzuki enlists the Detective Boys to defend the amber Kirin's horn from the Phantom Thief Kid. Kirin's horn is secured in the center pillar of a secluded shrine. A crowd gathered to watch the scene and Kogoro's friend, Yumi recognizes him. After talking about the judo class reunion that is to take place that day, she leaves. While turning back, Conan and Kogoro realize the gun the robber had is missing. That night at the reunion, they plan to go out and watch fireworks. Kogoro's friends did not go leaving only Conan, Kogoro, and Ran. Yumi is missing from dinner so the judo members go to her room to wake her up from her sleep. There, they find her dead from a gunshot wound to the head and in her hand was the missing gun from before. Kogoro realizes that burn marks are missing from Yumi's temple meaning that it was a murder and one of the judo members is the suspect.

Conan notices the blood stains suggest the bed was moved, and hypothesis the culprit murdered Akiho, concealed her body under the bed and hid himself, then when Eri went to shower, returns the bed back to its original position and leaves the room. Kogoro has the police gather the suspects and declares Takehiko to be the culprit. He reveals that Takehiko placed his toy cars under the bed legs allowing the bed to easily slide. They evidence it with Takehiko's statement, when he said that James Dean's car was a Porsche 911, but in reality it was a Porsche 550; revealing he used the 550 in the crime. Takehiko asks how would he know Eri was going to take a shower. Eri reveals that Takehiko filled her fridge with only carbonated drinks, knowing that alcohol would make her thirsty. As evidence, the murder weapon, the ashtray in Takehiko's room, should contain Akiho's blood. Takehiko confesses and reveals that Akiho threatened to kill him to inherit his money. Later, Kogoro gives Eri her present, announcing it is her birthday. However, Eri reveals that her birthday was yesterday, and that Kogoro assumed Health and Sports Day was the same day as her birthday. Conan explains that Health and Sports Day used to be on every October 10th, but was changed to the second Monday of October at some point. Kogoro is disappointed his plan of lowering Eri's expectation and surprising her with her present has failed, but Eri happily accepts her gift and kisses him. Kogoro solves the case, revealing that Yumi died much earlier and that exercise from table tennis caused her body to undergo rigor mortis much earlier. He reveals that the judo member who murdered Yumi was Kazushi Nakamichi. Nakamichi revealed that he was dating Yumi for eighteen years and he proposed to her multiple time but she always turned him down. Afterwards, Conan returns to the Mouri Detective agency to find a girl named Akagi Ryoko waiting in front. She asks Mouri to find Kudo Shinichi, saying that she was his girlfriend. Ran gets jealous and angry and decided to go to her house, but Conan notices some strange things and realizes that there was a kidnapping of Mamoru Akagi, Hideo Akagi's little brother. The kidnapper is later revealed to be Uemura Naoki, a fellow soccer player of Hide's. He kidnapped Mamoru because he believed that Hide injured his leg on purpose to stop him from surpassing him. After the solution, Ran calls Shinichi's cell phone, which he gave to Ryoko before, and chases Conan to an alley where she confronts him about Ryoko. At that moment Agasa drives up in his yellow beetle. Conan replies with word that somewhat suggest feelings for her and he hides in Agasa's car, escaping Ran sucessfully.

Ran, hesitant by her love fortune, does not incapacitate him with karate and allows him to escape. Kogoro explains the man has been dubbed as the Rooster Man and is a serial robber at Rooster Festivals. Ran and Sonoko takes Conan with them to visit the festival again to have their love fortunes retold. A woman's scream is heard and they discover that the Rooster Man was spotted and stabbed a man before escaping. The assistant producer, Yuichi Kitamura, gets a severe stomach pain that causes him to be bedridden. They take a ferry to Miyajima and begin filming. In front of Itsukushima Shrine, a crew member finds out salt was added to his drink; the film crew then notice a familiar man in a crowd and assume him to be at fault. One of the crew tells Conan that man may be probing the crew since it is suspected one of them is running an illegal casino. Conan notices a photograph depicting the crew members in the past and is told the crew were in Miyajima two years ago for filming; He then notices the man spotted at the shrine in another picture who is revealed to be Shinroku Ayasa, Yayoi's brother. Yayoi explains her parents fell to their death on Misen two years prior and Shinroku investigated the cause. Two weeks ago, he disappears for unknown reasons. As the filming continues, a crew member finds his ring tone has been changed to clappers and another has been thrown an etched rock. Conan relates these to the seven wonders and explains the salted drink is related to the ebb and flow boulder, and Kitamura's cherry blossom tie is related to Misen's cherry blossom tree. A crew is is found bludgeoned with a khakkhara and Yayoi's bakery is set ablaze; the witnesses claims it is the work of Shinroku.}}

Today, the defending champion, Shuuhei Kurimura, wins again, making him the winner for six weeks in a row. Thanks to Sonoko's father's connections, Ran, Sonoko, and Conan can watch the preview from the show's gallery next week. Sonoko, who needs to invite five people, baits Kogoro, who she needs to escort them, to come as well, by stating Yoko Okino will be one of the judges for next week's program. She is stuck on the last person to invite, and Ran's mother, Eri, cannot come because she has work.

The police, Kogoro, Conan, Masumi, Terafumi, Toshihide, and Wataru are in the surveillance room, where they see Shoutoku enter the storeroom last night at 9:05. In the camera film, the next person that enters the room is the producer Toshihide Taruoka, who states he was checking to see if the chest arrived; after all, he is fully responsible if the its contents are leaked out. According to him, he was in that room for 30 minutes because he was searching for the chest. At 10:20, Wataru Furuya and two other AD's arrive in front of the storeroom. Wataru says he was in there for quite a while because he was smoking while checking his text messages after he quickly checked the chest. At 10:54, he came out of the room. After that, Terafumi Kasuga entered the storeroom and was in there for about half an hour to check the TV station's lock and take photos to show Shoutoku. He tells the police the chest was fully locked and so he went home after that. Nobody went in the storeroom the next day before the staff members took the chest, so those three people are the only ones that have a chance to commit the murder.

As the trio tour the home with the actress, her three children, and the maid, they are surprised to witness consistent quarreling in the household with Misuzu Shirakawa being the unpleasant one. As the afternoon draws close, the actress retires to her bedroom for an afternoon nap, a car accident occurs outside, and then smoke emerges from the bedroom.

However, upon finally realizing that Black is not the man they were after, they decide to kidnap him, anyway. The only clue left behind by Black was that he wrote "P&A" on the ground by where he was kidnapped. Can Conan solve the case?

The mysterious man named Shuichi Akai is shown driving James Black away from the scene later, as Black remarks on how Conan is no ordinary boy.
Character development James and Shuichi seem to be working together and James refers to Conan by the name "Cool Guy" Because the photo of Conan in the Vermouth room's says this name.

The next day when Conan and the Detective Boys arrived at her house to get the jacket they met Kanae's friend Tomoko and see Matsunosuke in his dog house, asleep.

However, Kenya doesn't seem to be interested in Ran and asks Ran to accompany Rumi to wake Waka, Kenya's ex-girlfriend. Rumi and Ran has to open Waka's apartment with a key when no one answers. Later, Ran finds Waka on the bathroom floor, but she collapses herself due to chlorofoam in the air.

Kogoro, Ran, and Conan are out walking when a robbery occurs. Conan and Kogoro are able to take down the robber and hand him to the police. A crowd gathered to watch the scene and Kogoro's friend, Yumi recognizes him. After talking about the judo class reunion that is to take place that day, she leaves. While turning back, Conan and Kogoro realize the gun the robber had is missing. That night at the reunion, they plan to go out and watch fireworks. Kogoro's friends did not go leaving only Conan, Kogoro, and Ran. Yumi is missing from dinner so the judo members go to her room to wake her up from her sleep. There, they find her dead from a gunshot wound to the head and in her hand was the missing gun from before. Kogoro realizes that burn marks are missing from Yumi's temple meaning that it was a murder and one of the judo members is the suspect.

Conan recognizes two things strange about Yumi's body; the finger was not on the trigger and she was naked under her robe. Conan then realizes who the murderer is and plans to tranquilize Kogoro to solve the case. Realizing how determined Kogoro is on solving the case, Conan instead decides to drop subtle hints and let Kogoro solve the case. Kogoro solves the case, revealing that Yumi died much earlier and that exercise from table tennis caused her body to undergo rigor mortis much earlier. He reveals that the judo member who murdered Yumi was Kazushi Nakamichi. Nakamichi revealed that he was dating Yumi for eighteen years and he proposed to her multiple time but she always turned him down. When he became engaged to another woman, Yumi terrorized them both with threats. He revealed that he picked up the gun from the robbery earlier, seeing it as a sign to murder Yumi.

The Detective Boys pretend to be scared and hide in the bathroom. When they come out, they find their teacher, Ms. Kobayashi, secretly practicing for the parent meet. However, she claims to not have tried to scare them off and they realize that someone else is indeed in the school. However, it is actually the vice-principal who lost his toupee and had been searching for it for the last two nights.

As the other guests are in distraught over Masaie's death, their whereabouts are told to Yui, Tamami was preparing dinner, Sumika was cleaning rooms and Jinsuke went shopping. It is mentioned that the water was coloured green-ish due to the bath salts, Masaie lost conscious due to a head injury caused by dumbbells, which also kept his body under water, which wasn't visible due to the floating tomatoes in the bathtub.

Yui Uehara, Masami and Conan conduct a search in the rooms of the guests, to no avail, since they don't fine knife-like objects or wigs. While they consider Sumika faking the attack on her, the duo clears up the possibility due to the nature of her cut, which was horizontal. A woman is seen lurking outside again, which, although not connected, startles Uehara after her being mentioned.The group checks some pictures which point to the red hints of all the previous 'pranks'. In one the pictures, Satoko is seen wearing a cardigan, to which Yui points out that on the day she was found she was wearing a red coat. She points out that the ones who found the knife 3 years ago were Kansuke Yamato and Taka'aki Morofushi, while they were still attending police academy. Morofushi was sure that the bones which were found belonged to the red woman, while Yamato was opposed to the idea, even after it had been proven, he refused to accept it.

Ran went to a karate tournament so Conan and Kogoro eat breakfast without her. Rokusuke's apology is publicly broadcasted via television, and when Conan's mentioning about how much of a good person he must be, to take the blame in order to protect his boss' honor, Kogoro says that he'll probably be swarmed with contracts from new agents, making the whole situation look even more fishy.

Conan, Ran, Sonoko and Masumi walk down the street while talking about the red woman case. They ask her about her self defense techniques, to which she says that her brother used to send her tapes which she watched many times. She tells them that her mother still lives in the United States, which is a reason why she's now staying in a hotel, since her brother didn't want them to live together. Sonoko makes a remark about the cost of living in a hotel, but Masumi tells her that a friend of her father is taking care of it. The groups makes the decision to visit the hotel she is staying at, after which she cancels plans which she had to meet up with her brother.
Romance While Ran, Sonoko,Masumi and Conan are having a tea party , the girls are talking about their relationship. When Masumi asks Conan about the girl he doesn't forget and Conan can't answer, Sonoko tell that he (Conan) ends with Ayumi but Ran said that she thought Conan likes Haibara making Conan shocked. When Ran asks Conan face to face, Conan blushed and said to himself"it's you"'

Takagi asks Conan and Masumi if they have taken shampoo bottle caps away from the crime scene, but they haven't, since they only reached the door and didn't go further. He also mentions that somebody has thrown over the table, which landed in the victim's suitcase in the room with beer which was spilled in it. He mentions that the suitcase was quite large, even though there weren't many things in it - clothing, make up, a laptop, a bag and an old post card. The twenty year old post cast was written by Hiura, stating that if he was to use the story he would use the recipient's name for the protagonist. It was addressed to Outa Jun. Ran quickly mentions that Outa Jun is, in fact, the name of the protagonist in the author's book "The cellphone, the sea and I". She quickly explains the plot of the book to the group. A scratched mobile phone is found on the beach, a model which hasn't been released yet, with the message "How old are you?", after a few exchanges via messages between the person who found the phone and the one who was sending the messages, it can be concluded that the person is sending messages from the future. The answer to the question who was sending the messages was "The cellphone, the sea and I", which the protagonist at first didn't understand, but soon she replied with the exact message. The meaning of that message is to be revealed in the new book.
Character development After finding a bug in a pair of glasses by which she is impressed, the unknown child tells Masumi that she doesn't trust Conan yet, but should the moment arise, Masami can tell Conan that she is her little sister from outside the territory.

Conan, Ran and Kogoro arrive in Kanazawa via train and as they leave the station they see the Tsuzumimon gate. Kogoro has been asked to participate in the Kaga-Hyakumangoku mystery tour. Yuzo Tanimoto, a tourism association employee introduces himself first, followed by Moeko Miyazawa who also works for the association, Yuya Tadokoro, an event manager and Osamu Kuranishi and Harumi Akiyama who both also are employees for the association. After having received each business card, Kogoro introduces himself as the great detective and prepares to hand out his golden business cards.

Near the castle they spot Akiyama on the floor, bludgeoned as Osamu runs towards her. He yells at the rest to call an ambulance and Conan observes that this might have been just a case of mugging, since her handbag is open and lying on the floor, but if it was just a random case then there should be more victims, concluding that the culprit must have targeted Akiyama.

Because Professor Agasa's bath is broken, Conan, Ran, and Haibara head for a bath house. While there, he notices a suspicious man opening a locker. Conan catches a glimpse of what is inside, and the man closes it quickly.

While thinking about the man, Conan slips and hits his head on the ground. Before he could stand up, the suspicious man walked over to him and covered his mouth with a towel. Conan slowly fell unconscious. Then, the suspicious man and his partner say they're going to take Conan to a hospital and put him in their car.
