Part 1

Kidnapping

Location: Tokuyoshi Stables Victim: White Spirits Suspects: Yasutaka Hase, Saneaki Nagaura, Masao Shiomi, and Chizuru Kakuta After accepting Kogoro's plan to bring White Spirits to Okuho Stables, Tokuyoshi organizes a procession to bring White Spirits to safety but, while on route, the horse disappears after the truck transporting it turns left in a construction site. They then learn that Masao Shiomi was the culprit and led White Spirits escape in another truck that was parked in the fake construction site because he was forced to.

The culprit is Kozo Tokuyoshi. He did the fake kidnapping of White Spirits to get a life insurance policy payout on White Spirits which the date for the money requested was the day before White Spirits blanket was found. He would only do that if he knew White Spirits was dead because his employees reported to him that they killed White Spirits but White Spirits is alive because Saneaki Nagaura, Yasutaka Hase, Masao Shiomi and Chizuru Kakuta hide him at Kitado Stables where they used to work and White Spirits and White Legion were born instead of killing him while acting according to Kozo White Spirits kidnapping and Murder plot and increased there incredibility plot to Tokuyoshi because they loved that horse. They are also the ones who left the anonymous tip. The trailer used to transport White Spirits is at that stables you know. Saneaki Nagaura, Yasutaka Hase, Masao Shiomi and Chizuru Kakuta were bought with money which Kozo poached them and White Spirits. Tokuyoshi was under financial strain because of some reckless foreign investments which he decided to do the fake kidnapping and murder of White Spirits to fraudulently get a huge insurance payout. He used the debts of the employees that they owned to force them to carry out the crime. To stop him they disguised themselves and hired Kogoro to protect White Spirits. With a great detective on the case, they assumed Tokuyoshi would cancel his plans. However, Tokuyoshi believed a famous detective nearby would help him play the victim and carried out his plan. They pretended to follow his plan and hide White Spirits instead hoping to reveal the truth and that White Spirits was safe once Tokuyoshi requested the insurance money. Later White Spirits returned to racing under a new owner.

Trivia

• The case is inspired by The Adventure of Silver Blaze, one of the 56 Sherlock Holmes short stories cited during the investigation. It centered around the disappearance of a race horse the night before an important race, along with the murder of his trainer.
• The taxi from SIM Taxi the three mysterious people take is a 1990 Toyota Crown Sedan. The license plate number is not visible.
• The truck is a 2002 Hino Ranger Horse Transporter. The license plate number is 新宿 120, ほ 76•24 (Shinjuku 120, Ho 76•24).
• Kozo Tokuyoshi's car is a 1997 Black Toyota Century [GZG50]. The license plate number is 新宿 300, せ 20-80 (Shinjuku 300, Se 20-80).
• Chizuru Kakuta car is a Highway Yellow 2004 Suzuki Swift [ZC11S].
