Kogoro, Ran and Conan are invited to Shizuoka to a famous mystery writer Kaidou Chika's house for an interview on what a detective life is like, however this interview turns into an investigation of adultery as the writer wants to know if her husband and her student find her to be a nuisance, the visit goes on for too long and so the three of them stay the night. When they wake up in the morning, the three residents of the house are dead, each one killed by a different poison. | |||||||||||

While been at a café, Sonoko and Ran are accused of stealing a concert ticket to other client. The next day, the client returns saying that someone from the café has listed her ticket on some auction webpage. One of the employees hasn't come to work, so Conan, Ran, Sonoko, the client and another employee decides to go to her apartment to speak with her. In a dark room, a thief is frantically looking through an office for something. When he finds it, he smiles and cuts open a bear.
The next day, the Detective Boys go to Kumamoto with Ran and Kogoro for a sightseeing trip. Kumamoto is known as the capital of water for its amazing water sources, but it's also known as the country of fire for its volcanoes. The group arrives at the Aso Volcano museum, where Ran bumps into a boy, named Justin Takamori. Ran calls Justin cute, and Justin calls Ran even cuter and winks at her. He then adds tat she is in second place as his mommy, Jessica Takamori is in first place. Justin then shows the kids his stamp book of all the tourists spots he has already been to so far.

They follow the cat into a refrigerated delivery truck where the kids stumble on to a body in a box. Although the Detective Boys have not been discovered by the delivery men, the cold begins to affect them, as Mitsuhiko even collapses from giving his sweater to Haibara. Conan uses a receipt to write a message and releases Taii from the truck with it stuck in its collar, hoping that Bourbon will find it and realize what is going on.

One night at Mouri Detective Agency, while Kogoro is reading about horse racing on a newspaper, Ran, Sonoko, and Conan are watching "Which Sweets Show", a television program where two chefs compete to see who makes better sweets. Today, the defending champion, Shuuhei Kurimura, wins again, making him the winner for six weeks in a row. Thanks to Sonoko's father's connections, Ran, Sonoko, and Conan can watch the preview from the show's gallery next week. Sonoko, who needs to invite five people, baits Kogoro, who she needs to escort them, to come as well, by stating Yoko Okino will be one of the judges for next week's program. She is stuck on the last person to invite, and Ran's mother, Eri, cannot come because she has work.

The police, Kogoro, Conan, Masumi, Terafumi, Toshihide, and Wataru are in the surveillance room, where they see Shoutoku enter the storeroom last night at 9:05. In the camera film, the next person that enters the room is the producer Toshihide Taruoka, who states he was checking to see if the chest arrived; after all, he is fully responsible if the its contents are leaked out. According to him, he was in that room for 30 minutes because he was searching for the chest. At 10:20, Wataru Furuya and two other AD's arrive in front of the storeroom. Wataru says he was in there for quite a while because he was smoking while checking his text messages after he quickly checked the chest. At 10:54, he came out of the room. After that, Terafumi Kasuga entered the storeroom and was in there for about half an hour to check the TV station's lock and take photos to show Shoutoku. He tells the police the chest was fully locked and so he went home after that. Nobody went in the storeroom the next day before the staff members took the chest, so those three people are the only ones that have a chance to commit the murder.

In the meantime Conan starts snooping and asking around, getting hold of the info he needs to see which of the three is the killer!

However, the man, named James Black, an American is later accidentally mistaken for the real person, and is kidnapped and held for ransom. The kidnappers plan to kill Black after they get the money. However, upon finally realizing that Black is not the man they were after, they decide to kidnap him, anyway. The only clue left behind by Black was that he wrote "P&A" on the ground by where he was kidnapped. Can Conan solve the case?

Conan figures out, with the help of Sato, Takagi, and Yumi, what "P&A" means. They realize that the kidnappers are in a police car, and are masquerading as police officers. Conan, Sato, Takagi, Yumi, and other members of the police force use this to their advantage, and completely corner the kidnappers, saving Black. The mysterious man named Shuichi Akai is shown driving James Black away from the scene later, as Black remarks on how Conan is no ordinary boy.

After going to the washroom, Conan catches Kazue injecting poison into a bottle of wine, but he is captured and locked in the wine cellar by an unknown attacker. He escapes to find out Kotaro died after drinking wine and Kazue is taken away by the police. Conan discovers Kotaro never drank the wine and the doctor was the true killer after viewing a recording of the murder caught on camera. | |||||||||||
