Situation

Part 1

Heiji and Kazuha visit Tokyo accompanied by Kogoro, Ran, and Conan. They run into the butler of Heiji's mother's late friend's family and are invited to their mansion. The son of the friend is getting married the next day. There a murder occurs and the butler is found dead in a locked room. It seems he was dragged to another room after being stabbed in the heart.

Heiji and Conan start their deduction. They revealed that the culprit is Sakuraba. With the help of string with a loop and a bit of cellotape, the culprit can create a locked room murder. When Sakuraba hit Kikuhito, he broke some glass off the window behind the body. The window has also a small hole. First, he fastened the loop to the window's lock, put the broken piece back, and pull the string through it. Then, he went to the balcony with the window unlocked and pulled the string gently so the lock slides to the left slightly and locking the window. Then, he pulled the string harder so the string is undone from the tape. The string is pulled outside and the room, because the door at the entrance was also locked, is assumed to be a locked room. Sakuraba hit Kikuhito so that he would hit the window and break the glass so the evidence would disappear. Heiji told them that Sakuraba ran away using the balcony. He get down to the next floor using it. It is impossible for Mikio to do that because he has a hurt leg. Kaede and Yurie wear unsuitable clothes so it would be impossible for them either. As for Kikuhito, he has a terrible fear of heights. Only one person remains and that is Sakuraba. He can also climb a tree with ease so it would be easy for him to ran away using the balcony. Heiji then points out that Sakuraba and Kaede were secretly lovers. He also reveals that Sakuraba couldn't forgive Shigematsu for arranging the marriage between Kaede and Kikuhito so he killed him. As for evidence, Heiji found a shirt covered in blood to which Sakuraba belongs to. Sakuraba is soon arrested. However, the murder weapon is still missing. While everyone is sleeping, a man is searching something outside the mansion. He finds the murder weapon, keeps it, and went back inside the house quietly. He went to Sakuraba's room and put the murder weapon inside Sakuraba's bag. The light then opens and it was revealed that Heiji is standing behind him. The man is revealed to be Kikuhito Morizono. He leaved fake evidences and tried to framed Sakuraba. The trick explained earlier was not really used. The proof is the presence of bloodstains on the lock but absence of it in the balcony. Actually, there were no tricks used, since, in reality, he were there in the room all the time. Conan joins the deduction show and points out that Kikuhito were hiding behind the left curtain in the room next to the one where the body was found. That's why the shutters was closed, so that no one could see from the outside that he were hiding behind the curtains. He also switched the lights off and dragged the body from one room to another, leaving a bloody trail. This way, after forcing the door open, they would logically follow the trail to the next room and their attention was focused on the corpse. After that, Kikuhito came out from behind the curtains and joined the people who had gathered at the scene while pretending to be innocent. He put the cat in the room so as to make Sakuraba's alibi fragile. He knew his father would ask Sakuraba to find the cat if it was missing. The blood-splattered shirt was one he had stolen from Sakuraba. He rolled the shirt around the murder weapon and the gloves together and throwed them through the window. He broke the window with the chair to get their attention and have them found the body. The tools he threw ended up stuck in the tree so the police can't find it. Since his afraid of heights and he needs to get rid of the murder weapon, he didn't have a choice so he threw it. Heiji revealed that the police is surrounding the mansion so he can't escape. He searched for the murder weapon that had fallen off the tree due to heavy rain and planted it to Sakuraba's bag to framed him. However, since he was caught in the act, there is evidence that he is the true culprit. The police, Heiji, and Conan set up a trap. The room, the bag, the knife left in the woods, and Sakuraba's arrest were all a trap organized by them. Kikuhito admitted the crime. He said that Shigematsu was blackmailing him to cancel the wedding. If he didn't cancel the wedding, Shigematsu will tell his father about his company's bad payments. That's why he killed his butler, so his secret will not be found out and to prevent future blackmaling. He wanted to put the blame on Sakuraba, who stole his fiancee. However, the truth is Sakuraba didn't steal her. Kaeda always came there to see him. Shigematsu, thought she was there for Kikuhito, arranged the marriage. He was wrong, just as Kikuhito's father was long ago. He never mentioned it because he didn't dare, thinking of the shock it would cause him. Furthermore, he was the one who united him. Shigematsu didn't want to blackmail him. He only wanted him to renounce the wedding so Kaede and Sakuraba could be together; so that couple wouldn't have to endure the same circumstance as he had long ago.

Trivia

• This was the case that Heiji and Kazuha first went to Tokyo together.
• This was the case that Ran chose to remove the shirt, her mother sent her, since Kazuha dislikes Ran for being all matchy/matchy with Hattori in the beginning of this case, and The Naniwa Serial Murder Case, purely by accident, but still.-I assume it is that case, since Kazuha mentioned Osaka, and that was the only case that they were on in Osaka so far.
• Ran and Kazuha became closer friends since the removal of the shirt.
• This is the first case that Hattori's mother is shown, however is is only her feet.
• This case shows that Kogoro really has no idea of how a deduction show really works, since he really does not give any deduction shows, and they are only present , when he is asleep, or when a 'REAL DETECTIVE' is giving them, even if they need a mouthpiece.
• Interesting Note: Ran should not be surprised since her unconscious father gathers all concerned for his deduction show every single time he is 'Sleepy Kogoro.'
• Interesting Note: If Kazuha has grown up with Hattori, she should have seen plenty of his deduction shows, so she should not be surprised about him wanting everyone involved to be gathered for it.
• Since Hattori is High School Detective of the West, and Shinichi Kudo is High School Detective of the East, their significant others should know how it is done, when done by a high school detective.
• This is one of the first cases that the Deduction Show, which in this instance, was given by Hattori, pointed to a false Culprit, in order to lead the real culprit into a trap for a joint Detective Duo Deduction Show for the true culprit.
• The real trap for the true culprit was prepared by Conan, Heiji, and the Inspector, just for the culprit to retrieve his own murder weapon, a butcher knife.
• This is the first case that a Butcher Knife was the murder weapon.
