Mine family
This article contains significant spoilers about major events concerning these people. It is likely you will be spoiled if you have not read all the manga released to date. To find out what pages will be safe for you to read, please consult our wiki spoiler policy. |
The Mine family (峰家 Mine-ka ) currently consists of 4 people: Fuji Mine, her son Raizo Mine, the latter's wife Shizuka Mine and the daughter of the latter two, Sayaka Mine. They are a lineage of incredibly skilled swordsmen, allegedly descending from the folk hero Urashima Tarō and Otohime of Japanese mythology. They own and live in a traditional samurai house with a dojo and kendo school in the (fictional) district of Yaoya, Tokyo.
These characters originated in Gosho Aoyama's previous series Yaiba, but have all had (so far non-canon) appearances in Detective Conan and Magic Kaito. Their surname (峰) is, down to the kanji, adapted from Fujiko Mine's family name from the Lupin III series.

Taro Urashima
Taro Urashima (浦島 太郎 Urashima Tarō ) is a mythological figure and the protagonist from the folk tale of the same name, who rescues a turtle and gets invited to Otohime's Dragon Palace under the sea in return. He is a historical person in Yaiba, being the direct male ancestor of the current Mine family, who created the current family line with Otohime.
The magical box Taro owned, which rapidly ages the person opening it, briefly appeared in Yaiba Volume 6. The folk tale, its protagonist and Otohime also serve as integral hints in the Onikame Island Case (Manga: 361-365, Anime: 291-293).
Otohime
Oto-hime (乙姫 Princess Oto ) is a mythological figure from the folk tale Urashima Tarō, the princess of the underwater Dragon Palace, and a historical person in Yaiba, being the direct female ancestor of the current Mine family.
The magical box Otohime gave to Taro as a present, which rapidly ages the person opening it, briefly appeared in Yaiba Volume 6. The folk tale, its protagonist and Otohime also serve as integral hints in the Onikame Island Case (Manga: 361-365, Anime: 291-293).
Grandpa Mine
Husband of Fuji Mine, father of Raizo Mine, father-in-law of Shizuka Mine and grandfather of Sayaka Mine. Never appeared in any series proper, because he seemingly passed away before the start of the story. He is mentioned without name by his wife Fuji, who says that she heard the legend about Ryujin's Sphere from her husband in the past.
Fuji Mine
Widowed wife, mother of Raizo Mine, mother-in-law of Shizuka Mine, grandmother of Sayaka Mine and current head of the family besides her son. Her forename is never given in Yaiba, with her just being called "goinkyō" (ご隠居, "retired person") in the original text, while in OVA 1, she's identified as Fuji Mine (峰富 士 Mine Fuji ) (probably another play on Fujiko Mine). She appeared in a non-canon role in chapter 18 of Magic Kaito and the first Original Video Animation of Detective Conan based on it, throwing inspector Ginzo Nakamori out of [Mine residence|their house]] in both, getting wooed by Kaitou Kid and giving Conan Edogawa some "family medicine" against colds in the latter version, which causes him to turn back into Shinichi Kudo (after turning into Kogoro Mouri and Heiji Hattori during the first two tries). This was revealed to be nothing more than a dream Conan had after reading too many Yaiba manga, though.
Raizo Mine
Raizo Mine (峰 雷蔵 Mine Raizō ) is the son of Fuji Mine, the husband of Shizuka Mine and father of Sayaka Mine. Besides his mother, he is the current head of the Mine family and an old rival of Kenjuro Kurogane. He briefly appeared in a non-canon role in chapter 18 of Magic Kaito and the first Original Video Animation of Detective Conan based on it, inviting Kogoro Mouri to drink in the latter and trying to hunt down Kaitou Kid in both versions of the story.
Shizuka Mine
Shizuka Mine (峰 静香 Mine Shizuka ) is the wife of Raizo Mine, mother of Sayaka Mine and daughter-in-law of Fuji Mine. She seems to be an absurdly oblivious and forgetful person, at one point not even recognizing her own daughter anymore after she put on a pair of sunglasses. She briefly appeared in a non-canon role in chapter 18 of Magic Kaito and the first Original Video Animation of Detective Conan based on it, hiring Kogoro Mouri to catch Kaitou Kid in the latter and getting wooed by the phantom thief in both versions.
Sayaka Mine
Sayaka Mine (峰 さやか Mine Sayaka ) is the only daughter of Raizo Mine and Shizuka Mine and granddaughter of Fuji Mine. Since she's part of Otohime's blood line and born 1000 years after the last Dragon Priestess, she is the current reincarnation of her, as proven by Kaguya trying to hunt her down to regain her youth and real appearance. She appears in a non-canon role in chapter 18 of Magic Kaito and the first Original Video Animation of Detective Conan based on it, joining her mother hiring Kogoro Mouri to catch Kaitou Kid and scolding Kagetora, Shonosuke and Gerozaimon Geroda for scaring the Detective Boys in the latter and getting wooed by the phantom thief in both versions. She can also briefly be seen as a character of the video game professor Hiroshi Agasa made in File 1039.
Gosho Aoyama
The fictional alter-ego of Gosho Aoyama (青山 剛昌 Aoyama Gōshō ) actually is part of the Mine family tree, according to a brief joke in chapter 143 of Yaiba, but it's not explained how he relates to Sayaka Mine and the rest. Yaiba Kurogane misreads his name as "Gonosuke Aoyama", with Sayaka reprimanding him that this is rude.
