STAFF pages format
Hello PScoop. I appreciate some improvements for the biography segment of the staff pages (since the staff pages were a deprivation on the wiki so they were kind of hastily written just to catch up with the Chinese Conanpedia wiki which they have almost the staff part complete). Yet I think the format of the table can stay like that, not only because that they were literally stolen translated from the Chinese Conanpedia, but also it would then lead to an inconsistency within all staff pages (it seems that there isn't text replacement feature available on DCW wiki). As such, the formatting and all kinds of stuff conform to the Chinese wiki and I think it's reasonable.
Which also means that the idea of "1 hour" or "2 hours" side-notes are also taken from Conanpedia. If we only use it specifically for the animator, the note part might just be left blank on most occasions, and I think appending them really do optimise the visualisation. For the "biography" segment, I think some personal descriptions of the animator outside of Detective Conan is tolerated (initially Biography segment was only used for writing a person's lifetime experiences and "resume", yet later I also added scoop of work within Detective Conan too), by that I gather "he debuted in anime XXX"; "she started animation in XXX" is fine and doesn't affect the conciseness of the wiki (which also appears in Conanpedia).
Regarding the aliases/pseudonyms remark beneath the "note" column, I don't suggest italicising them as they are basically analogous to a normal text found in standard wikitables. For any alias I suppose it would be better to just insert the original Japanese notation within: I know it sounds a bit weird for an English wiki to record info in Japanese, but the majority of animators possess aliases simply with some variations - Akio Kawamura, Kazuo Nogami, Mari Tominaga and Rie Fujiwara etc. Their hiragana aliases all translate to same English name, which means that solely writing English names is not adequate - unless it's similar to Yoshiharu Shimizu, but that's a rare case.
Also, please refrain from deleting too much in the biography segment. I strained my very best to just "squeeze" all aspects of information just to make it more informative, hence creating the most comprehensive and useful introduction of the animator. Or else a biography just turns into a summary of the tables below. What's more, based on Detective Conan Wiki:Manual of Style, it is clearly indicated that small portion of conjectures are allowed, as long as it is plainly stated and don't go too subjective (I personally presume that describing bad performance conducted by Studio Wanpack in Murderer Kudo Shinichi Case, or collapse frames drawn by Studio Leo animators in some 2022 episodes is perfectly meaningful and not eccentric at all, since having a steady animation throughout the episode can be evidently judged, with no personal aesthetic involved), then it's eligible to stay. Some speculations for staff pages may also enhance the content within the pages - even the Chinese Conanpedia has pervasively great deal of speculations, such as "pseudonym of Kenji Kodama and Michiyo Sakurai"; hence I think heresays should be kept as well; some additional info can be indicated by utilising ref tags with group of "Note".
And I also see nothing wrong with capitalising position names (e.g. Key animation → Key Animation). But I think the fact that whether it's in uppercase or in lower does not make a pronounced difference, whilst there are many more staff pages pending to complete and create, meanwhile amending the current ones is already a considerable amount of work; considering the fact that presently there are over 300 staff pages, in order to enable manually "cascading update", all of these pages would need to be altered, which is a lot of work and tiring for sure.
I hope you can understand the "predicament" and you are most welcome to make any rectifications on the staff pages! Cheerios!!! --BOBO (talk) 20:16, 19 May 2024 (UTC)
- Just for the sake of clarity, my previous message did not intend to criticise any of your edits nor did I hold any resents on your edits - in fact, your edits are great. I just tried to convince you with some common sense about the format of the staff wikitable. And mind you, I am not the one who dictates the format and all other stuff. As I mentioned, they were sort of copied from the Chinese wiki - that is, having their first staff entry created in November 2021 Keiko Sasaki, which implies that this scheme for recording positions in tables have been thoroughly tested, at least by the Chinese wiki viewers and editors, for roughly 3 years. In my opinion, substantially altering them would then seem a bit unnecessary as it is already good enough. --BOBO (talk) 07:17, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
Re: STAFF pages format
First off, I hope I am doing this right. Because I never message on a wiki before. Second, sorry I was late to response. As I've been visiting this site to edit only occasionally. Third, I get the general message and I do acknowledged that I did removed quite a lot of what I deemed unnecessery informations. So I understand that your guys might found it excessive from your side.
So the best case forward for me is going be keeping removing infomation to a minimal, I will plan to do more staff cleanups, so those would at least pass off as a readable English wiki page (though as my English skill isn't the strongest, I'm clearly not one to say.) There were a lot of other decisions I'm not really agreed with, but those are not something I can decide, so I have to accept and keep that in mind when I'm doing these edits.
Don't expect me to have a consistent schedule though! It's literally depend on when I feel like doing it. (laughs) Anyway, I got the message and thanks to sending this to me. --PScoop (talk) 14:23, 22 May 2024 (UTC)
- What you did was great here! I also admit that I went too far on the length of my first message... I apologise. Take it as a constructive discussion between us two, rather than a hostile debate, I hope :) Because I assuredly perceive - that both of us yearn to enrich the Detective Conan wiki. I look forward for your amazing edits! --BOBO (talk) 16:38, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
