Situation

Part 1

While doing a bus tour as tourists for Kagekuwa, a small village in Nishitama, Kogoro, Ran, and Conan witness someone dying in front of their eyes. While investigating, they learn that an accident which took place many years ago is linked to the murder.

Part 2

Conan continues investigating. A search for Yabe is organized by Kogoro and the policemen. Kogoro manages to find him, and he gets questionned in a police station nearby. Conan calls Professor Agasa, and asks him to search something for him on the Internet.

Conan reveals that the murderer is Toko Natsume, the daughter of a man named Kohei Moritsugu who was killed in the accident from seven years ago.

Accident (Past)

Location: Mountains Victims: Kinu Komai, Yoichi Tezuka (dead), Mamoru Kajita, villagers, and Kohei Moritsugu (dead) Age: 35 years old (Komai), 28 years old (Kajita), 28/29 years old (Tezuka), and 55 years old (Moritsugu) Injury: Bus Fell from the cliff Suspects: Yoichi Tezuka Tezuka was harassing Komai and Moritsugu went to protect her, causing him and Tezuka to go into a fight. Moritsugu fell on Kajita, making him miss the turn and causing the bus to fall, killing Moritsugu and Tezuka.

She planned to take revenge on all the passengers who were present at that time, the motive being that if someone else had also helped Komai, the previous bus attendant, her father would have probably survived. She first killed Okumura and Funaki, as their bus schedule didn't match with the rest, then attempted to kill the rest of the witnesses along with herself by tampering with the bus brakes.

At first she was going to kill Komai as well, as it turns out she was actually the female bus attendant who was being harassed that fateful day, but after seeing her go to her father's grave and apologize she decided not to. Conan told Touko that Okumura was actually not involved in the bus accident seven years ago, as he was at home sick. This is confirmed by the others passengers, meaning that she killed an innocent person.

The other passengers drop to their knees and apologize for not being brave enough to step up and help like her father did. Just then they reach the dangerous curve, the bus driver and attendant try to stop the bus by having it driven into a small ditch to no avail. Conan manages to rescue everyone with his elastic suspenders. After the bus finally stopped, Natsume is arrested but not before thanking Conan for stopping her. Conan is scolded by Kogoro for doing something so dangerous and he worrying them. Later on it is revealed that the bus has resumed it's services under the sunny skies.

Trivia

• The Nishi Tokyo Bus B001 from Shin Hachioji Station to Kagekuwa Village reappears in The Scenic Lookout with the Broken Fence, with Mt. Kotengu as new destination. The license plate number is 西多摩 22 • か 23-79 (Nishitama 22 • Ka 23-79).
• Kinu Komai's car is a 1997 Blue Velvet Pearl Toyota Caldina [T210G]. The license plate number is 西多摩 55 • て 53-29 (Nishitama 55 • Te 53-29).
