Takeyori explains that (as he is a famous artist) Kaitou Kid has sent him a letter saying he is going to steal the "Seiran" Painting.

Various Newsreporters are interviewing Conan about Kid, however Kogoro interrupts and attempts to steal the lime light.

Ginzo Nakamori arrives on the scene. Kogoro and Ginzo discuss why they're here and their views on Kaitou Kid.

Kogoro, Conan and Ran greet Takeyori. Takeyori is leading them upstairs when Kanbara asks to speak to him. Takeyori says it can wait and explains to Kogoro that's his father in law, who taught him. Kanbara used to be a famous scenery painter but hasn't held a brush for 10 years due to his hand injury.

The group enter Takeyori's workshop. Takeyori says Kogoro cannot see the painting just yet. Conan reviews the room, the windows are locked, there are five riot guards under the window, and Takeyori has installed one security camera. Takeyori also points out he teaches art classes here once a week.

Takeyori offers to show Nakamori and Kogoro the video feed. There are two guards outside every door. So Conan asks why there aren't any guards in the atelier. Takeyori says he won't allow them incase they sneak a peek of the painting.
