The Case
Sonoko invites Ran, to attend a meeting full of avid magic fans she met online. After dropping her off at the snowy lodge, Conan and Kogoro return home. During the ride, they hear on the radio that one of the members, Tsutomu Nishiyama, is found dead in his home and that his dying message was the name Dark Master, one of the members of the club.

Conan rushes back to the lodge only to find out the only bridge across is on fire. Fearing for Ran's life, Conan rushes through the bridge before it collapses and arrives at the lodge, though he inhales so much smoke that he passes out once he steps on its gate so Ran and Sonoko have to take care of him. Toshiya Hamano is later found dead ten metres from the lodge.

Conan wonders how the murder was done since no footprint was found in the snow.
The Suspicion
The members of the lodge decide to leave the Hamano's body untouched to preserve the crime scene and retreat back into the lodge. They discuss among themselves and believe that the club member with the Username Dark Master is the murderer.
Conan, Ran, Kikue Tanaka, and Katsuki Doito head upstairs to retrieve a sweater. While upstairs, an arrow breaks through the window and almost hits them. At the same time, another arrow breaks through the window on the bottom floor. The people of the lodge head outside to investigate and find a crossbow on the ground. The people begin to believe that the culprit is an outsider of the club. Conan investigates and notices that there was evidence that something was stapled to the outside of the house. Conan realizes how the murders are done.
The Resolution
Conan recreates the crossbow attack on the top floor and lures everyone outside.

Trivia
- This is Conan and Kid's second meeting. The first one was in Conan vs. Kaitou Kid.
- This is the episode that Toichi Kuroba made a cameo appearance in, where he was performing a magic trick on stage.
- The spelling may be off, but one of the club did mention that they liked Motoyasu Tsukumo who was a victim of a previous case. I took the spelling of the previous case for him.
- The spelling may be off, but one of the club mentioned that they liked Yoshiro Kinoshita who was a victim a long time ago. I took the spelling of the previous case for him.
- Huden Harui was kind of based on Harry Houdini.
- This is the first case that we see Conan wearing a face mask in the car, which may be a sign that he has a cold or something, and he did sneeze. In fact, Kogoro told him that he has a cold, when he tried to sneak in, so he can follow Ran.
- In short, This is the third case that Conan is sick.
- Kogoro saw Conan run across a burning bridge before it totally collapsed.
- In this case, a disguised Kaito Kid called Conan "Little Detective," in full view of Ran and Sonoko, as well as helping Conan to investigate by going along with it, and distracting Ran and Sonoko, so he can really investigate.
- This is the first case that Conan tranquilized Sonoko up close with the Stun-Gun Wristwatch for his deduction show.
- Conan had recreated the first arrow trick before beginning the Sleeping Sonoko trick.
- At some point during his deduction show, Conan placed the Button Speaker onto Sonoko somewhere, so that he can reveal Kaito Kid's alias to everyone, while heading toward Kid himself.
- This is the episode that Kid tells Conan, "I'm no detective, and you were half-dead with that cold. Can't be helped," when talking about the now solved murder.
- Although Kid, may or may not have seen Conan tranquilize Sonoko in this case, his disguised self went to the verandah, and shot the crossbow, as ordered by Conan, using Sonoko's voice.
- Although he knows that it was really Conan telling him what to do, and actually solving the case, but in Sonoko's Voice, Kid did call out Sonoko's name, when responding to conan's instructions, helping to cover up the fact that he knows how the "Sleeping Kogoro trick, since he is a witness to the sleeping Sonoko trick, and knows how Conan does it. In short, he is keeping up the illusion for the others, and not revealing Conan is hiding behind Sonoko, and probably others 'all the time.'
- Kid may not have seen the tranquizer, although he himself puts people to sleep.
- Kid may not see Conan speaking through the bow tie, however he can speak in the voices of others.
- He also probably saw Conan run behind the tree, behind Sonoko, at the start of the Deduction show, unlike everyone else who tunes out Conan's disappearance immediately everytime.
- Kaito Kid called Conan "Great Detective," just before he made his escape.
- This is the first case, if not the only case, that Kaito Kid was involved, and he was not planning on any heists at all; he simply came to investigate something.
- This is the second case that Kaito Kid puts Ran to sleep. The first one was in Conan vs. Kaitou Kid.
- In this episode, Kaito says to Conan, "Before the Bell announcing the century's end rings..." just as he flew off in his hang glider, which may have something to do with this case being originally aired in January to February of the year 1999. Although it may also scream out about Kid's next appearance in The Gathering of the Detectives! Shinichi Kudo vs. Kaitou Kid, which has the following original airdates, so I am confused:
January 8, 2001 * October 6, 2003 (Rerun) * May 18, 2019 and May 25, 2019 (Remastered version) ** It looks like the remastered version aired before the original airdate of 2001?, This is also a Season 9 episode. The first part did talk about a Clocktower Heist, which explains the bell announcing the century's end comment.
- In this case, Kaito Kid maintained his only disguise, until just before he left.
- Katsuki Doito- Rearrange the letters in "Katsuki Doito" to make Kaitou Kid.[1]
- The Nagano Prefecture snow mountains painting in Ara lodge is from Ski Lodge Murder Case. The beginning snow scene reappears in a painting in Yokosuka Castle from from The Last Wizard of the Century and in Tenbu Station from The Entrance to the Maze: The Anger of the Colossus.
