Case

Situation

Kogoro, Ran, and Conan visit a small house in Shinano village, Nagano Prefecture, that is surrounded by a beautiful forest called the "Soothing Forest". There, they meet a group of people who sell things and use ledgers, led by a village head. While everyone is doing chores, the village head is found dead, and everyone has an alibi, but Conan solves the case.

Shiro Murakami is the killer. The culprit used the river Tsunakawa to escape from the crime scene. He used the clay and the rope which were found at the village head home's entrance. The culprit first removed their pants that had the victim's blood on it, and rinsed it briefly at a spout. He then grabbed the clay and rope, and took them with him. After that, he turned the damp pants inside out, and spread clay all over the pants' legs. Then, he turned the pants back out, and tied up both legs with the rope. After that, grabbing the waist of the pants, let enter the air in, and then he jumped off the bridge into the river. The inflated pants are then used as a swimming float. The culprit then just floated back downstream that way. Shiro's motive was that his father declined to loan him money, and so he killed his father unintentionally in a fit of rage. Shiro was upset his father favored his younger brother Kinji.
