Case

Situation

Several days ago, Iwao Yamakabe was found dead at Tenma. The police then try to contact his family, but he seems to live alone. When a police officer arrives at his house at Hikaridai, he is surprised to find the living room have signs of scuffle, and the money inside the safe had been stolen. When a vase with Yamakabe's blood found at the scene, the police conclude that Yamakabe was murdered at his house around 7:00 p.m.

Two days after the case, the police found the main suspect: Kyosuke Temukai. Megure recognizes him from a murder case happened three ago, where Temukai, who worked at a government office, was one of the suspects. At that time, to prove his innocence, he confessed that he had been secretly meeting a certain businessman. However, his government office learned about the meeting, and he was fired. Currently, he operates a publishing company, where he try to get close to successful people and make them write autobiographies. Yamakabe is one of those people, and it seems he was avoiding Temukai.

The police later come to Temukai's apartment. Temukai says that he was working alone at the time of the murder. Megure then mentions that Temukai had detroyed his own car in a one-car accident on the morning after the murder. However, Temukai keep insisting that he didn't kill Yamakabe. Despite the lack of evidence, Megure is willing to risk his career before the chief section, and proceed to arrest Temukai. However, the next morning, after the news reported the arrest, Yasuko Chikaba comes to the police station and confesses that she had a meeting with Temukai at her house in Tenma from the evening until around 9:00 p.m. That is the moment when Megure knows that he has fallen into Temukai's plan. Megure then goes to Mouri detective agency, and tells Conan and Kogoro the full story. Kogoro decides to help Megure.

Megure makes a plan, saying that Kogoro knows where to find the physical evidence near Kyosuke Temukai, forcing him to go to the location where he disposed the actual weapon. When he finds the weapon is still there, he planned to disposed it into the sea, but he quickly got busted. The events of how Temukai murdered Yamakabe are:

• First, he threatened Yamakabe so that he opened the safe.
• After making Yamakabe fall asleep, he make a mold using clay and the vase, and make the actual weapon using steel rod and UV resin.
• He attached Yamakabe's blood and hair to the vase, ransacked the room, and carried the sleeping Yamakabe to his car.
• He went to Chikaba's house while Yamakabe is still sleeping.
• Around 7:00 p.m., he left Chikaba's house, saying that he was going to buy cigarettes. However, he went to his car and murdered Yamakabe using the actual weapon.
• Later, he dumped Yamakabe's body, disposed the actual weapon, and called the police so that the body can be found quickly.
• In order to get rid any signs that the car is the actual murder scene, he destroyed his car in an accident.
