Situation

Part 1

One evening, Kogoro, Ran, and Conan watch the latest episode of a drama based on the mystery novel series Detective Samonji, written by Nintaro Shinmei. Ran then talk about how the novel is continuing after it ended ten years ago.

Just as they're talking about it. Mr.Shinmei's daughter Kaori came to the detective agency and hires Kogoro to find her father and mother. Despite the fact Mr. Shinmei has been sending his manuscript of the new Detective Samonji series via fax to the publisher every weeks, they've have been missing for two months. This cause Kogoro, Ran, and Conan to go the publisher's editorial office and investigate.

	Victim: Nintaro Shinmei and Mrs. Shinmei Age: 59 years old and 55 years old Suspects: Unknown While Mr. Shinmei announced he is continuing his famous Detective Samonji series. And has been sending his manuscripts via fax to the publisher every weeks. They've been gone from home for two months.

Part 2

Due to the fact Mr. Shinmei's signature from chapter seven onward were copy of his. It was determined he and his wife is in danger. Heiji Hattori later calls in and explain how he deciphered the text in the first new chapter, and with this information Conan manages to solve the rest of the hidden riddles, but can him and the cops get to the place Mr. and Mrs. Shinmei live before it was too late?

As it turns out. There never was a crime in the first place. Mr. Shinmei was living in Haido City Hotel with his wife and his personal physician the whole time. The whole deal was his last mystery. A set up to see if anyone can come to him and solve it before he says the answer, as his last wish before death. Unfortunately, Mr. Shinmei has passed away just moment after the latest chapter was sent due to terminal cancer. Leaving his last wish unfulfilled.

Aftermath

Though saddened by her father's passing, Kaori vows to not let Detective Samonji die along with him and continues the series under her name, which becomes a great success. She also adds three new characters to the series serving as Samonji's assistants: a scatterbrained detective based on Kogoro, an energetic schoolgirl based on Ran, and a showy boy based on Conan, much to Conan's chagrin.

Manga to anime changes

• While Ran and Kogoro are arguing over which shows to watch, Conan recalls Haibara reminding him that if he wants to get his body back, he needs to help Kogoro to become a real detective. Doing so will result in more leads to the Black Organization. In the anime, he reminds himself of the objective as Haibara doesn't show up until The Girl from the Black Organization and the University Professor Murder Case, whereas the manga version of episode 116-117 follows it.
