Situation

While Kogoro is sleeping from drinking too much, the Detective Boys listen to one of his messages and end up talking to Nichiuri TV newswoman Aki Asano. When she goes missing though, it's up to the Detective Boys to solve the clues she is sending them on Conan's pager.

While being kidnapped, Asano sent the following clues:

• 110: Japanese police number.
• 9109:
• 2003: when readed in digital device vertically looks like "MOON".
• 0: in weather symbols, a non-shaded circle means clear weather.
• 00: in weather symbols, two circles inside each other means cloudy weather.
• 096: reads in kanji: marunikuru meaning a black circle, which indicates a rainy weather.
• 5656: reads in kanji: goru goru, which is the sound of the lightning.
• 0109: reads O-to-ku, which means large prop.

The one who kidnapped Aki Asano is Kazumi Tsukumo as revealed from number 9109 which read "tsukumo". Her goal is to decrease Aki's reputation and to get her fired from News City Program.

• The dub had Kogoro on a case in another town, rather than being too drunk to help.

Trivia

• While talking about cell phones, Ayumi says that Mitsuhiko had one a while ago, but that he broke it for the sake of justice. It's a reference to The Kidnapping Location Case.
• Kobayashi is the model for Detective Kobayashi.
• This is the last episode to be dubbed by Funimation Entertainment, and also the final one to be dubbed into English until nearly fourteen years, before the English dub of episodes 965-974 by Macias Group were released.
• This episode seems to show that Conan didn't have a cellphone until later on, although it is only an anime-original episode, and thus unconfirmed.
• In this case, the culprit being a black shadowy figure wasn't only to hide the culprit's identity to the viewers, but the culprit did in fact wear a suit similar. Their identity is revealed when Mitsuhiko takes off the culprit-like face mask.
