Case
Situation
A young and beautiful woman named Mitsuko Sekine is found by a reef drowned in what appears to be a suicide. When information that the town's doctor had been intimate with her in the past is revealed, and Mitsuko's best friend Tomoko insists it was murder, both Conan and Kogoro suspect she is right and that suicide is impossible. Now the two must find the clues before his drinking alibi fully comes through, but what to do when Tanaka was actually drinking with Kogoro himself?

Resolution
Tomoko tearfully said that she suspected
Dr. Tanaka of being the killer, and she was right. Tanaka killed poor Mitsuko since she was his girlfriend at the time, but he had been offered a very good arranged marriage to his boss' daughter. Thinking that Mitsuko's presence would ruin an alliance that would further his career, he decided to take her out of the picture, permanently.
Tanaka brought a swim ring and hid it, then called Mitsuko for a date. He drugged Mitsuko and took her to the seaside; then he tied up a boulder to her bare feet, put the swim ring around her and left her ashore. The waves took the still unconscious Mitsuko inside the sea and soon she was at the bottom of the sea, unable to escape and ultimately drowning. Meanwhile, Tanaka was out drinking with other friends of his (and with Kogoro, Ran, and Conan around as well), and this was his alibi.
The biggest mistakes that Tanaka commited were:
- Buying the swim ring in the village. Conan asked around and easily found the person who sold it to Tanaka, who was told by him that he'd give it to a friend's child as a gift; he also showed around some photos, with the seller recognizing the ring.
- Tying Mitsuko's feet in a way that, when photos were compared to Ran doing likewise under orders of Kogoro-via-Conan, was highly suspicious. They were tied up with the string's ends towards her toes, instead of the other way round; that was a proof that she had not tied the boulder to her own body, but somebody else had done so.

Trivia
- This is the second and final episode to adapted from the manga Detective Conan Special, with the first being The Kidnapping Location Case.
- This is the first episode that takes place in Wakayama Prefecture.
- This is the first episode that show Ran and Conan going snorkeling, and they are doing it at Shirahama Beach.
- If Tomoko Yamada suspected foul play, she should have spoke up, and told the police, "Police, I forbid HIM to do the autopsy, I th9ink he killed her. It HAS to be someone else. In fact, get him away from her NOW, before he messes with any evidence on her."
- Dirty Looks don't get the point across that he should be nowhere near her body.
- Words Do.
- It is not like a suspect cannot lie about time of death or other important things, when they are the doctor doing the autopsy, such as Moonlight Sonata Murder Case.
- Surely, if she did speak up, they would have made certain to keep him away from her, even if they have to send her body elsewhere, as well as take his word with a grain of salt.
- Conan borrows a bicycle, since he apparently did not bring his Turbo Engine Skateboard on the trip.
- Conan was complaining about all of the trash that was in the sea, since the sea is not the place to throw garbage away, and the next thing he does is to cycle around the ocean, throwing the trash bottles in the ocean at various places for an experiment.
- The Shirahama sea sunset reappeared in a painting in Yokosuka Castle from The Last Wizard of the Century and in the store from Detective George's Mini-Mini Big Strategy. Open spoiler box to see images.
