While Kogoro is sleeping from drinking too much, the Detective Boys listen to one of his messages and end up talking to Nichiuri TV newswoman Aki Asano. When she goes missing though, it's up to the Detective Boys to solve the clues she is sending them on Conan's pager.

- The dub had Kogoro on a case in another town, rather than being too drunk to help.
Trivia
- While talking about cell phones, Ayumi says that Mitsuhiko had one a while ago, but that he broke it for the sake of justice. It's a reference to The Kidnapping Location Case.
- Kobayashi is the surname and character design on which Detective Kobayashi was based.
- This is the last episode to be dubbed by Funimation Entertainment.
- Although Conan may not have a cell phone yet, Ran gave him a pager, since he is always suddenly disappearing.
- Mitsuhiko was the first Detective Boy that manage to decipher some of number codes, however it was an incorrectly deciphered, which created an incorrect deduction.
- This is the first case, where someone who has been kidnapped was held in a prop room of a TV Station.
- This is the first case that a culprit was really wearing a culprit type mask over their head and face, in contrast to all other times, when it is merely a stand-in, until the culprit has been revealed to us. In this case, Mitsuhiko pulled off the mask, after Conan did the big reveal to us.
