Conan noticed that the plot is very similar to an unpublished novel written by his father that had been stolen ten years before. However, unable to contact Yusaku Kudo, Conan takes the case into his own hands, and finds his mother on the train.
Part 2
Conan reveals to the suspicious woman that he knows her identity - it is Yukiko Kudo, his mother, in disguise. As they discuss the case, Kogoro calls all the passengers to witness his inaccurate deduction, enabling Conan to figure out the trick. However, a worried Conan recalls that in the novel, the detective boy who solved the case was murdered by the trap he set for the criminal. Yukiko volunteers to act as a decoy to help him find the proof.

Trivia
- The train is a JR Freight Class EF510-501 Hokutosei (北斗星).
- Every case character's name is related to a Japanese train:
- Yasuji Asama is named after the Asama train service of the Shinkansen;
- Keitaro Izumo is named after the Sunrise Izumo overnight sleeping car train service;
- Akishige Ishizuchi is named after the Ishizuchi train service;
- Toru Aoba is named after the now-defunct Aoba train services;
- Azusa Izumo, although already named after the Sunrise Izumo, is also named after the Azusa train service;
- Other than Fumiyo Akechi, who is Yukiko in disguise (this alias is named after the famous Japanese detective Kogoro Akechi's wife[N 1]; created by Edogawa Ranpo.
- Moreover, the name of the Hokkaido Police which appeared in this case, Kyohei Nishimura (whose full name was only conceived in movie 27), is a tribute to the Japanese mystery author Kyotaro Nishimura, who frequently utilises railways as story settings within his novels.

Quotes
- Extracts from Yusaku Kudo's novel:
- The sound of gun shot and screams...
- The man ran through the aisle as if he were a starved beast...
- But the man was no longer anywhere in sight... The wind and the sound of the train played their clamorous tune...
- The young man wearing black rimmed glasses smiled a smirk of victory.
- The killer sneaks silently up behind the young detective... with his blood-stained hands... lightly pushes the vulnerable back of the detective... and covers the entire platform with blood...
- Yusaku Kudo (to the culprit Toshinori Kaetsu):
If you felt in any way moved by my novel... I'll recommend you to turn yourself in. Because the killer in that novel in the end was scheduled to turn himself into the police after regretting all that he did.
- Yusaku Kudo recounting jokes after the case has been solved:
Yukiko Kudo: But I sure sense fate, for you to come and save me just in the nick of time.
Yusaku Kudo: In the nick of time? I was there near you from about two minutes before everything happened.
Yukiko Kudo: Huh? Then what? You mean you waited doing something until I was almost pushed?
Yusaku Kudo: Yes. I wanted to be sure that he was the killer. Besides, the stage of the novel was the Seikan Tunnel. So, I silently watch over you.[N 2]
Yukiko Kudo: He gives me the shivers.
Conan Edogawa: It is Hokkaido, after all.

Notes
- ^ This behaviour precisely matches with the plot found within a previous case: The Cornered Famous Detective! Two Big Murder Cases, where Yukiko compared Yusaku with Kogoro Akechi; which to a certain degree, may manifest her affirmation of her husband.
- ^ Dry humour - "
青函 " (Seikan) and "静観 " (silently watch) share identical pronunciation.
