Part 1
Kogoro, Ran, and Conan are all heading into Chinatown to have a nice dinner. In the car, Ran is studying extensively for an exam, and hasn't slept very well. Her mind keeps thinking back to a blurry memory of her and Shinichi, and she keeps thinking about that mysterious man, Shuichi Akai, and about how she believes she has seen him before. Conan is very worried for her health. While at the restaurant, they share a dinner table with another group of guests, because Kogoro didn't read the fine print on a coupon. One of the guests on the table dies.

Inspector Jugo Yokomizo arrives on the scene. Kogoro mistakes him for his older brother, Sango, which angers Jugo, who is not a fan of Kogoro. Because Ran sat near the victim, she is considered a suspect! Conan wants to figure out who the murderer is, not just because Ran is a suspect, but also because she keeps looking more and more ill. Could something bad happen to Ran?
Part 2
After an investigation, which sometimes is tense, Conan finally figures out how the killer could have killed the victim. However, when everyone was about to leave, Ran collapses on the ground, and the officers offers to drive her to the hospital.

Trivia
- Starting with this episode, the animation was done digitally instread of traditional animation.
- Prior to this episode. Episode 96, episode 219, episode 263, and opening 11 also use digital animation.
- This episode mark the introduction of the second image for the "Next episode" preview. The image is a picture of Conan printed on a metallic plate with a wooden background.
- This episode also marks the first use of the show's second "Next Conan's Hint" image, replacing the previous image of Ran and Conan looking at a sign bearing the hint. The new image instead features a picture of the hint tacked onto a brick wall, and illuminated by spotlights.
- The name of the restaurant, 柯南道爾楼, literally means "Conan Doyle Tower" in Chinese.
- Masatoshi Nagase, who plays Mike Hama in the TV drama "Private Detective Mike Hama", aired only a few hours afterward, is the one who voiced him in this episode.
- This is the first episode when it's hinted that Sharon Vineyard and Yukiko (Shinichi's mother) were close friends, that's why Conan told Dr. Agasa that is would be challenging if Chris Vineyard was a part of the Black Organisation.
- Jugo Yokomizo has 2 direct subordinate detectives in this case. One resembles Detective Wateru Takagi and the other resembles Detective Kazunobu Chiba.
- This case mentioned that Ran frequently gets car-sick, when she reads in a car, however she does have a test coming up soon, so she has to study for it.
- The restaurant utilized a Lazy Susan type of table, for the ease of the customers.
- Ran stated that she has two favorite actresses, Sharon Vineyard, who died last year, and Yukiko Fujimine, who happens to be her best friend's mother.
- This is the second case that mentioned Yukiko Kudo's maiden name, which she is famous as, Yukiko Fujimine. The first is The Cornered Famous Detective! Two Big Murder Cases.
- Jugo Yokomizo from the Saitama Prefecture is the younger twin brother to Sango Yokomizo from the Shizuoka Prefecture.
- Japan's Chinatown is apparently in the Saitama Prefecture, or at least is has a Chinatown.
- This is the second case that Kogoro Mouri is the first or prime suspect. The first one was in Kogoro Mouri, Suspect. In both of these cases, it was Kogoro's first case with a (new) Inspector from a different prefecture. In the other case, it was Misao Yamamura from the Gunma Prefecture, who only Conan encountered once before, and in this case it is Jugo Yokomizo from the Saitama Prefecture.
- This is the case that Jugo called Kogoro, "Sweeping Kogoro."
- This is one of the first actual signs that Kogoro does respect Conan's observational skills, such as when he stated, "Yeah, and he did it all without getting my or Conan's attention."
