Case

Situation

While on the bus home, Ran meets an old man who later disappears. Later she finds a MO disk in her purse with secret information about fraud involving several companies. Conan realizes the old man must've been followed and captured. Sonoko is kidnapped, in a case of mistaken identity for having Ran's bag at the time.

Conan follows the kidnapper and creates a situation so that he has the upper hand and knocks out the men, saving Sonoko and discovering that the old man was an employee of Beika Construction involved in illegal activities, but gathered the evidence against them to take to Kogoro.

Aftermath

In the end, it turned out Ran did see the old man before. He was in fact a regular client of Café Poirot, and thus knew her and her father's name.

• Parts of the plot in this case pay tribute to the 1983 movie The Lady Vanishes, directed by Alfred Hitchcock.
• This is the episode where Azusa Enomoto makes her first appearance, yet her character design is exceedingly different from later episodes.
