Plot

Sato and Takagi are on their way to the crime scene, but Yumi makes it clear over the phone that there are already enough police officers on site with her, Naeko, Shiratori and Chiba, so only the forensics team is needed. Conan and the other children, Shukichi Haneda and Sumiko Kobayashi, are also at the scene. Shocked, Sato suspects that the couples have all gathered for a triple date, without Sato and Takagi. Yumi hangs up before looking angrily at Shukichi. The couples are all eyeing each other with suspicion. Annoyed, Yumi hisses at Shukichi, asking why he is meeting Naeko for dinner. Shukichi returns the question to Yumi, saying that she is meeting Shiratori here for dinner. Shiratori, on the other hand, finds it rather questionable that Chiba is meeting Miss Kobayashi. Chiba rejects this, saying that he had no ulterior motives - Chiba rather suspects that Shukichi has such ulterior motives because of his dinner with Naeko. Annoyed, Naeko replies that Chiba is not in a position to make such comments.

Conan is also annoyed because the policemen would rather argue among themselves than deal with the murder case. Conan summarizes the circumstances of the case: The victim is Tokumi Nagasu, 29 years old, living in Haido Town and working as a saleswoman in a pet shop in Beika. She came to Danny's with her friends Sumika Kokonoe and Mao Toya for a girls' night out because another mutual friend, Yasuko Aijima, works there as a waitress. Tokumi died of cyanide poisoning after eating one of the maritozzi desserts brought by Yasuko. However, as Mao and Sumika had also eaten the Maritozzi, it is not yet clear when Tokumi's dessert was poisoned. Haibara, on the other hand, is not interested in the case at all and would rather know how the relationship drama between the couple continues. She also suspects that Sato and Takagi were only whistled back by Yumi so that they would not witness the other couples' fighting. Due to Haibara's snarky comment, the Detective Boys and Professor Agasa are banned from the crime scene by Shiratori and have to wait in the professor's car in the restaurant's parking garage.

While the forensics team canvasses the crime scene, the three suspects are questioned individually. First up is Yasuko Aijima. She served the maritozzi to her friends to try, because they are gourmets and this is the perfect test before the boss puts the maritozzi on the menu in the near future. Shiratori soberly realizes that Yasuko had the best opportunity to poison a maritozzi and, by positioning the plate, ensure that Tokumi takes exactly the poisoned dessert. But Yasuko replies that Sumika took a photo of the maritozzi for social media and turned the plate for it, so it would not matter how Yasuko positioned it. In addition, no poison was found on her. When asked about a motive, Yasuko says that Tokumi and Sumika recently had a heated argument. The friends had actually sworn to always remain loyal to the band The Knight Hearts, but Tokumi has apparently been "cheating" by following another band.

Sumika confirms in her questioning that she touched the plate for her photo and turned it several times, but she does not have poison on her either. In addition, Mao had spread the Maritozzi on several plates with tongs after taking the photo. Mao never does this, but the last time the friends visited their regular café, the drunk Tokumi ate all of Mao's pizza while she was in the toilet. Afterwards, Mao, who was also drunk, shouted at Tokumi that Tokumi would see what she got out of taking things from other people.

Mao is embarrassed when questioned about this confrontation with her drunken outburst and she insists that she does not remember yelling at Tokumi, but confirms that Tokumi ate her pizza. She thus divided the Maritozzi between the plates, two for Sumika, two for herself and three for Tokumi, as she was the biggest eater of them three. The group of friends actually always goes to a café in Haido, but Tokumi has been insisting for some time that the girls' night out be held at the restaurant where Yasuko works. Previously, Yasuko had always refused, presumably because it might distract her too much from work. Shiratori asks why Tokumi was so keen to meet here. Mao replies that Tokumi thought the same old thing was boring; she wanted to try something new.

After the individual interviews, the forensics team discover that the victim touched several places with the poison on her hand, so she must have touched something with her hand that was laced with poison beforehand. Shiratori and Chiba go through the suspects again, but are not able to make much progress in solving the case. The two policemen are approached by Shukichi, who has noticed that the men are in a stalemate. Chiba angrily tells him not to interfere in the investigation as a civilian. Shiratori angrily interjects that Chiba is being a little too snippy. While the three men argue, the women get together, and decide to call Conan and tell him the details of the interviews and the forensics' analysis results. The places Tokumi touched with her already poisoned hand were the top of her backrest, the front right under the seat of her chair and her hand towel. She did not get up after she was in her seat and could not have had the poison on her hand before entering the restaurant, as she ate fries with the poisoned hand before dessert, as revealed by security camera footage. Conan asks Yumi to send the footage to Professor Agasa's cell phone, but Yumi does not have the professor's phone number. Kobayashi, who has written down the professor's number in her notebook, helps out. In the process, Yumi and Naeko notice a heart marking in Kobayashi's calendar for the coming Saturday, which makes them realize something.

A little later, Agasa receives the recordings, where Conan can watch them while continuing to talk to Yumi on his cell phone. It is noticeable that Tokumi was initially sitting with her back against the back of the chair, but then later sat leaning forward for a long time. Then the lights went out for a birthday celebration. When the lights come back on, Tokumi is sitting with her back against the backrest again. Conan has a hunch and has Yumi send him the friends' selfies from their past and present girls' nights out. By inspecting the photos, Conan has figured out the case. The culprit planted the poison without anyone's knowledge and managed to make it disappear from the crime scene through the victim's hand.
