Plot

After the ambulance and the police arrive, the injured and unconscious Yuuta is taken away on a stretcher, with his fellow content creators following it. Before they can board the ambulance, the three are stopped by detective Uehara, who says that they will all need to be interrogated. Agasa is tasked with staying with Yuuta in the ambulance, while Uehara says she will drive his Beetle for him. After the ambulance leaves, the Detective Boys worriedly ask if Yuuta will be alright, since he was bleeding and unconscious. Meanwhile, Morofushi and Yamato, who just arrived at the scene, ask Conan why he called them there, as it must have not been a simple accident. The three detectives interrogate the Detective Boys, who say that Yuuta was driving with his arm out, when it suddenly caught fire. Haibara adds that Yuuta looked at the fire on his arm and panicked and veered off the road into the tree. Uehara concludes that from the facial expression he had, he must have not lit it himself. They ask Conan if he knows how it might have started and he replies that it happened after the van sped past the Mini, and that the police should ask the three who were in the van, Tamaki Itou, Kaori Nanjou and Shichisuke Kasai. Kaori confirms what the Detective Boys said, and adds that they were on the way to a restaurant and when they just sped past Yuuta, they noticed his flaming arm. Morofushi asks why they sped past Yuuta's Mini, and Shichisuke explains that he suddenly felt sick at the wheel and wanted to let Yuuta know, so he caught up with his car. Morofushi continues, asking why he felt sick. Tamaki says that it must be her fault, since she bought a lot of ice cream and both she and Shichisuke finished it, which must have caused his stomach to act up. Yamato comments on how Shichisuke looks fine now, but Shichisuke says he relieved himself in the woods just a moment ago. The Detective Boys then tell a perplexed Yamato that they know that the fire was started by the Sacred Light of the Dead, a spooky spirit that lights fires and candles, and that you can ward it off by putting a shoe on your head. A confused Uehara ask them what the shoe is for, and the Detective Boys say that the four content creators were planning to make a video about it. In the back, Kaori thinks to herself that their video has no link to the shoe. The three suspects explain that they have a video channel focused on creating haunted location tours and that their current video was an attempt at summoning the soul of their deceased friend Takehiko Nanjou, who died in a fire three months ago. Yamato and Morofushi are dumbfoundedly ask the three why they would make a video promoting their friend's death, but Kaori fights back, saying that they did not plan to upload it if it turned out bad. Shichisuke then shows them that their video was a success by letting the inspectors see the footage of the first incident with Tamaki. Yamato and Morofushi are surprised by what they see. The three suspects add that later, there was smoke coming out of Kaori's parka and that there was a burn mark on it. Uehara asks for footage of that, but Shichisuke said that since it happened suddenly, nobody caught it on the camera, before they are interrupted by Mitsuhiko, who incidentally managed to film it on his cellphone. He then shows the footage to the police. After watching the video, Yamato comments on how Shichisuke and Yuuta seemed to have been at odds at each other, but Shichisuke said that it was just a silly quarrel. He says that since they were all classmates since elementary school, except for Kaori, who was Takehiko's younger sister, they have friendly fights often. Morofushi then inquires more on the fire that killed Takehiko three months ago. The suspects say that three months ago, in a snow lodge on a cold night, while they were already planning on making a video about the Sacred Light of the Dead, they had a drinking night just before filming. Tamaki passed out first from the alcohol. Since they ran out of beer, Shichisuke, Kaori and Yuuta head out to the shops to buy some, leaving Takehiko and Tamaki alone. While they were at the store, the three experienced a short earthquake, and, worried, they decide to check on Takehiko and Tamaki back at the lodge. Yuuta then headed out towards the lodge by himself, and when Kaori and Shichisuke came back, Yuuta was outside of the lodge carrying an unconscious Tamaki, with the lodge burning in a massive fire. Tamaki says that Yuuta told them that he tried to find Takehiko but failed to do so. Uehara adds that the police investigation found that Takehiko's body was under shelves in the rubble.

After hearing the backstory, the police ask the suspects to empty their pockets, to see if they had items that could light the fire. Shichisuke's belongings are a wallet, tissues, a handkerchief, a phone, keys, cigarettes, matchsticks and a portable ashtray. Morofushi comments on how rare it is nowadays to be carrying around matches, but Shichisuke said that he got them at the rest stop earlier after he lost his flameless rechargeable lighter. When Yamato asks him if he had anything left in the van, Shichisuke says that he just has the coffee he left in the cupholder. Next up is Tamaki, whose belongings are a wallet, a handkerchief, tissues, a small water flask, a makeup kit, a phone charger, keys, a coin purse, and a laser pointer, which the police are curious about, since there are high-power laser pointers that can be used to cause fires. Mitsuhiko defends Tamaki, saying that she always uses one to point to the dark in her videos. When Uehara inquires on why she has a coin purse even though there are coins in her wallet as well, Mitsuhiko defends her again, saying that she usually uses coins to buy gacha capsules. Kaori comments on how Mitsuhiko is huge fan. Lastly, the police checks Kaori's belongings, which are a wallet, tissues, a handkerchief, eye drops, a makeup kit, a phone, earbuds, keys, a power bank and hand sanitizer. Yamato picks up the hand sanitizer and says that since it is ethanol-based, it can be used to cause a fire. Conan says that they saw how she uses it a lot earlier, which Kaori confirms. Uehara then asks the suspects about the charred phone they also found among their belongings, which the suspects say are Takehiko's phone, that was returned to them the same day by the police. Kaori shows one of the pictures they were able to retrieve from the phone, which shows all the young Compass League Detectives from twenty years ago. In the picture, every kid, with Takehiko in the middle, are seen showing their badges,

The police tell the suspects that all their belongings will be kept as evidence for the time being and everyone leaves towards the hospital, with Uehara driving the Detective Boys in the Beetle, and the three suspects behind in the van. Yamato and Morofushi stay at the scene with Conan. As the three are alone, Morofushi says that they now have enough evidence, so they now know who the culprit is. In the Beetle, the Detective Boys hear from Uehara that Morofushi, Yamato and she used to be friends in their childhood. Haibara says that this sounds like a love triangle. Uehara blushingly says that this is not the case, since she is six years younger than the both of them, while almost calling Yamato by his first name. She also says that Morofushi and Yamato used to always fight, but when they saw the crying young Uehara during sports day, they decided to help her win the red ribbon. After she saw them work hard at the relay race trying to win her the red ribbon, she was impressed, but Haibara interrupts and says that that was when she fell in love. Ayumi asks which one of them she fell in love with, and Haibara whispers "Kan" in Uehara's ears, making her almost veer off the road as she blushingly yells at the kids to mind their own business. Meanwhile, back at the scene, the two inspectors and Conan inspect the Mini and notice a square spot without dirt near the wheels. Morofushi then says :

Taking a detour to go straight ahead... turning a disadvantage into a strong point

Taka'aki Morofushi, original saying from Sun Tzu in The Art of War.

He explains that this refers to how the culprit took the victim in a winding road that looked like a detour, turning the situation to their advantage. Yamato adds that lighting the clothes on fire was to pave the way for the culprit's murder plan. Conan also removes a Compass Detective League from his pocket, saying that this clue found from the glove box of the Mini is what led to this case happening in the first place.
