Plot overview
UFO Sighting Murder Case (Manga: 942-944, Anime: 847-848)
Hina went to the Mouri Detective Agency place to ask Kogoro to investigate about an UFO sighting case and, along with Ran and Conan, they went to the place where she supposedly saw the UFO, at Haido Park. She explains that during the summer break, she was in a practice camp with the karate club and during a jogging session, she got muscle pain and started running behind the others. This was when she saw the black cigar-shaped "UFO". She later leads Kogoro, Conan and Ran to the place where she saw the UFO, at Haido Park and lets them through a back door, since the front is locked because of a murder case that recently took place. There, they encounter Chiba, who explains that the murder case that happened left one dead and another man unconscious, who said that aliens came and attacked them. Hina gets convinced that this was committed by aliens too, and decides she wants to confront the alien that killed the man and "reform" it.
Later, Haido High and Teitan High have a joint practice session and per Conan's request, Ran hands her phone so Conan can speak to Hina, who is eager to hear about the alien. In the end, it turns out the UFO Hina saw was none other than part of the trick used in the murder case. Since Chiba manages to tackle the culprit, she compares him to Makoto Kyogoku, her upper-classman, who is currently studying abroad. She however does not have a good opinion of the rich girl he is currently dating.
Non-canon plot overview
The Great Detective Turned Small (TV Special: 6)
As they went to take a walk in Haido Shopping District, Ran and Shinichi witness a crowd and they run there to see what happened. It turns out Hina is confronting a purse snatcher. Then, the thief takes out his pocket knife and tries to stab Hina, but gets subdued. The police then come and the culprit is arrested. Later, at the karate competition, Hina confronts Ran at the finals, but loses against her.
Relationships analysis
Ran Mouri
She and Ran meet often at karate tournaments and Hina thinks they are rivals, though Ran does not think so. She calls Ran "Ranmaru", in reference to Mori Ranmaru (森 蘭丸), and makes her think about the quote of "beating Nobunaga's follower". Outside of karate, they have a good relationship and Ran describes her as a strong opponent.
Name origin
Her name, just like the names of the other suspects in her introductory case, is related to celestial bodies.[1] Hina Wada (和田 陽奈) is a reference to the sun (太陽, taiyō / 日, hi). Additionally, it is the name of a real fan of the series who won the occasion to appear in the manga during the Lets Talk with Gosho Aoyama Day 2015.
