Shinobu Ooe (大江 忍 Ōe Shinobu) is a character in the manga franchise Detective Conan. She is Chihaya Hagiwara's friend.

Background
Shinobu Ooe is a woman living in Kantō area of Japan[1] and has most likely finished her studies and joined the job market.
Appearance
She is a young woman of average height, as she only a few centimeters shorter than Chihaya, who is also a few centimeters shorter than her tall brother[2]. She has short black hair tied in pigtails or in a perm. Her eyes are very narrow and are shown to be "closed". She is only shown wearing casual clothes and has a sense of fashion.
Personality
She is quite energetic and didn't seem to bother that Chihaya arrived quite late. She is also quite loyal as she is mainly shown sticking around Chihaya in the masquerade party they both join. She is not shy, as she doesn't hesitate to talk to Jugo and Matsuda.

She is one of, if not her best friend. They have been friends since at least seven years, as she saw Kenji Hagiwara with Chihaya, and Kenji died seven years ago. They go to concerts together and she often brings Chihaya along on other events.

She has a friendly relation with Jugo and they have encountered at least a few times.
Kenji Hagiwara and Jinpei Matsuda
Kenji Hagiwara and Jinpei Matsuda have probably seen Shinobu quite a few times, since Chihaya is Kenji's sister and Jinpei is Kenji's childhood friend.
Plot overview
Hiroshi Agasa Abduction Case (Manga: 1073-1075, Anime: 1098-1099)
Shinobu Ooe appeared in Chihaya's flashback while she and Conan were on their way to rescue Agasa as Conan’s determination reminded her about her deceased younger brother, Kenji Hagiwara. In that flashback, Chihaya was disappointed that Matsuda broke her phone - which she intended to use to find Shinobu during an event, but Kenji had another idea while Matsuda was trying to fix it - he would find her directly during the event. Luckily, Matsuda was able to fix the phone and sent a message about a tall guy looking for him - referring to Kenji - and thanks to that, the two reunited.
Marriage Partner Searching Party Murder Case (Manga: 1085-1087, Anime: 1115-1116)
She appeared in a matchmaking party along with Chihaya, as the sooner didn’t want to go to the party alone. In the party, she was seen enjoying the food with Chihaya before a murder happened. Later when Jugo was taking Chihaya home after the case was over, it was revealed that Shinobu Ooe once attempted suicide when being dumped by her boyfriend, only to be stopped by Matsuda as he hold the knife blade, as according to Matsuda, looking at the blood and they would learn that attempting suicide is as horrifying as killing a person.
Name origin
Shinobu Ooe (大江 忍) comes from Kanade Ooe (大江 奏) and Shinobu Wakamiya (若宮 詩暢), supporting characters in the manga Chihayafuru, whose main theme is competitive karuta. This manga was earlier used as inspiration for Movie 21: The Crimson Love Letter. Similarly, Chihaya Hagiwara's name was also taken from the same manga[5].
