Plot
The suspects want to leave, but suddenly Yumi, Naeko and Kobayashi start setting up a table and chairs. Yumi explains that she will now reveal the truth behind the poisoning of Tokumi Nagasu. The women were supposed to show Shiratori or Chiba the conclusions Conan sent them on their cell phones, but Yumi wanted to do the deduction show herself. Naeko asks the suspects to sit at the table to the right of the crime scene as it will help them unmask the culprit. Yasuko Aijima sits in the left-hand chair, Sumika Kokonoe sits in the middle chair and Mao Toya sits in the right-hand chair. Yumi then has a waitress bring a new plate of maritozzi, but the suspects do not want to taste it as they still feel uneasy about the murder. Without further ado, Yumi and Naeko help themselves to two of the maritozzi and urge the suspects to do so. Mao and Sumika also decide to grab one each, but only Yasuko still has not touched a single maritozzo. Yumi says that this is no wonder, as Yasuko Aijima's hand is covered in poison, because she is the culprit.
The surveillance video showed Tokumi leaning forward in her chair at first. Yasuko had loosened a screw in advance, which made Tokumi think she had broken the chair because she of her weight; afraid of being laughed at, she preferred to sit leaning forward and not putting any weight on the back of the chair. When a cake was brought in for the birthday party and the lights were turned off, Tokumi swapped her chair with the left chair from the neighboring table on the right. In order not to make any noise when she stood up, she grabbed the underside of the chair and stood up so that the chair remained pressed against her buttocks. Yasuko placed the poison exactly in that spot under the chair predicting Tokumi's actions. Yasuko is now sitting on this very chair, which she also had to touch on the underside when she sat down, which is why she is not taking a maritozzo. As a waitress at the restaurant, it was easy for her to find out about the birthday surprise party and reserve the table next to the crime scene. In addition, Yasuko used the friends' selfie ritual to her advantage: since Tokumi always positioned herself on the right-hand side of the selfies since she felt more photogenic that way, Yasuko, as the photographer, was able to position the group so that Tokumi was closest to the right-hand chair and was thus unconsciously guided to that chair.
Yumi says that Yasuko must have noticed immediately that she is now sitting on Tokumi's poisoned chair, because the chair is wobbly and the underside of the seat is strangely sticky. But she could not say anything about it, otherwise she would have been found out. However, she is not actually sitting on the poisoned chair, as it is an important piece of evidence and it was already turned in to forensics. Yumi and the forensics team already swapped it for another chair; there is only butter on the underside of the seat, so Yasuko was never in danger of poisoning herself during the reenactment. In the meantime, forensics have been able to detect the poison on the real chair. Furthermore, forensics were able to watch previous footage from the security cameras showing Yasuko having tampered with the chair.
Mao and Sumika are furious, as one of them could have been poisoned in Yasuko's murder plan and died instead. But Yasuko says she does not care, as she blames Mao and Sumika as well as Tokumi for the death of Kenya Shibami, the fifth member of the band The Knight Hearts. He had to leave the band after the celebrity press got hold of a photo of Kenya with his girlfriend, as the band cultivated the image that all members were single. Kenya then tried his hand as a solo artist, but was unsuccessful. He was then killed in a car accident while walking drunk across a street. Yasuko was his girlfriend at the time and had tracked down the woman who had taken the photo. When Yasuko showed her the photo of the five band members together with the four friends, the woman revealed that Tokumi had approached her on the street because of her Kenya fan jacket and had told her where Kenya's favorite bar was. Kenya always went there with Yasuko, and that was where the woman took the photo of Yasuko and Kenya. Mao and Sumika had also been there when Tokumi told the woman about the local restaurant, but they had kept quiet and did not warn Yasuko of what Tokumi said. Yasuko only wishes she could travel back to the time when The Knight Hearts were still an indie band and the four friends were hoping for a big breakthrough, to warn them that a big breakthrough can sometimes break friendships and hearts.
On the drive home, Conan explains to the other detective boys what actually happend when the three pairs ran into each other. Yumi, Naeko and Kobayashi had asked their respective partners not to make any plans for the coming Saturday. Shukichi, Chiba and Shiratori then discovered heart markings in their girlfriends' calendars and assumed that a heartfelt surprise would be waiting for them that day. Therefore, the three men wanted to come up with a gift; to do this, Shiratori asked fellow officer Yumi for help in choosing one, and Yumi was knowledgeable about expensive fashion items. Shukichi asked Yumi's colleague Naeko, whom he had met during the case of Yumi's kidnapping, for help. Chiba asked Kobayashi, whom he knows as an alumni of Teitan Elementary School, for help. As thanks for the advice, the men then invited the women to dinner, where they all happened to go to the same restaurant and then met at the murder case. So there was no triple cheating, much to Haibara's disappointment. The surprise next Saturday is also in fact not what the men thought it was: the women had bought tickets for themselves and their respective partners for the big The Knight Hearts concert at the Tohto Dome. At the end, the three men attend the concert with their girlfriends. While the girls cheer on the band, Shukichi, who is standing behind with Chiba and Shiratori, makes a remark that he is already a knight (騎士 kishi) (read the same in Japanese as shogi player (棋士 kishi)), which makes Chiba comment that it is well said from the meijin.
