Plot

Takaki Koriyama claims his innocence in the murder of Katsunori Usui, but Maika Kayaki, Sakura Menda and Sango Yokomizo are pretty sure that he is the culprit. However, Conan knows who the culprit is. He argues that the fingerprints could have been created by wrapping the blanket tightly. For example, by tying a headband, a bandana, an arm sling or a halterneck. The murder weapon was the blanket and not a dress, says Yokomizo, but Conan wants to demonstrate how to make a halterneck dress out of a blanket. Meanwhile, Koriyama is on the phone with someone and wants to speak to their boss.

The children make a dress out of a blanket in just three steps, which Ayumi puts on as a demonstration. Her dress looks identical to the dress worn by Maika Kayaki, the real perpetrator. She had her friend Koriyama tie the dress tightly beforehand so that his fingerprints would be on it. She had previously removed the pineapple juice, which left only the prepared grapefruit juice for Usui. When Usui and Koriyama were both knocked out in the back room, she strangled Usui with the blanket while wearing gloves. She then wrapped the corpse in it and made a new dress out of a blanket from the guest room and put it on. She then removed the other prepared straws. She had previously hidden the pineapple juice nearby, which meant she could bring it with her without actually going to the vending machine far away. Today's murder was not Maika's first attempt either, as can be seen from the fact that Koriyama has fallen asleep quickly after consuming grapefruit juice several times before. Today, Usui and Koriyama were finally knocked out, but Maika was still unlucky because she used a blanket for her spare dress that Genta had previously dropped his sausage on, which is why a curly grease stain can now be found on Maika's dress. The burden of proof is therefore irrefutable.

Maika confesses and angrily explains that her act was revenge for the death of her little brother Reisuke. Reisuke had joined a gang of gangsters who made money through wire fraud. A month ago, Reisuke had to meet a fraud victim for the gang in order to collect the money. But this was a police trap; while escaping, Reisuke fell down a flight of stairs and died. Afterwards, the gangsters, including Usui and Koriyama, came to Maika and demanded that she work for the money that had been lost through Reisuke's failure. Maika pretended to be afraid of the gangsters and joined the gang, but in reality she was just waiting for the perfect opportunity for revenge: murder Usui, who had forced Reisuke to hand over the money, and blame Koriyama, who had persuaded Reisuke to join the gang. Sakura is also part of the gang, but Maika apologizes to her because she misused her grandmother's medication to commit murder. Sakura doesn't hold it against her because if Maika hadn't done it, Sakura would probably have taken revenge herself at some point. Yokomizo leads Maika away and wants to take Koriyama with him too, but he has made a run for it. Sakura assures Yokomizo that she will testify against the gang because she wanted to get out anyway. The police leave for the time being.

A little later, Sakura apologizes to Subaru, Rumi and the children for the incident that ruined their trip to the beach. Rumi wonders what will happen to Sakura now, who may also have to go to prison, but Sakura says it is worth it. At that moment, the boss of the gang arrives at the beach house with Koriyama and some thugs. They have no interest in Sakura testifying, and they now have to take Subaru, Rumi and the children into custody because they have seen their faces. The boss gives the order to beat them all up and take them away. Rumi stands protectively in front of the children while Subaru fights the thugs with Jeet Kune Do. He tells Rumi to run away and get Sakura and the children to safety. Subaru's words and martial arts remind Rumi of Tsutomu Akai, whom she had met at some point in the past.

Rumi runs to the beach house with the children and Sakura, but Rumi closes the door behind the children and destroys the door handle, leaving Rumi alone outside facing some gangsters. A little later, Subaru has eliminated most of the thugs, but some have run off. He rushes to the beach house, where he finds the missing gangsters unconscious in front of the door of the beach house. Rumi hides behind a corner and claims that she had nothing to do with the beaten gangsters; instead, she suspects that the gangsters must have accidentally beaten each other. The children break down the door and are glad that nothing happened to Rumi. But Subaru and Conan notice the battle scars on Rumi's hand.

The Detective Boys and the Two Leaders (episodes 1148-1149)

• In manga, Conan tuned into several TV channels to check if there is any news that broadcast videos recorded by people using smartphone which shows the situation when the hotel was evacuated. In the anime, Conan only watches one TV channel.
• Some dialogue was added in the anime:

• Haibara reminding Conan that he is not a child, and he should correct his own conduct of playing with smartphone in the middle of class cleaning.
• Rumi asking Detective Boys to finish the cleaning together after planning the trip to the beach.
