Sato's Father Case (Manga: 267-269, Anime: 205-206)
It was eighteen years ago, a day with heavy rain. He had just caught Kano as a bank robber and was escorting him to the police station. Believing that there was no hope for him in life, Kano tried to commit suicide by running into a trunk. He was saved by Sato himself, who was hit snd severely injured instead. As Kano ran away, he cried "surrender yourself, surrender yourself" ("jishu shiro"), while extending an hand in his direction. The passersby were not able to hear him clearly and thought that he was saying "Shuushirou", which is why the case came to be known as the "case of Shuushirou". He later died on the ambulance, in the company of his wife and daughter. Kano was at large for another eighteen years, partially because only Sato knew all the important details of the case, until Conan gets involved in the case and solves it.
