Contents
Background
Hina Wada is a teenager living in Haido City, Tokyo, and studies at Haido High School since two years. She also practices karate and is the second best in her category, the first being Ran. She is interested in UFOs and aliens, believing in them. Shinichi first met her when he saw her fighting a purse snatcher in a busy street, although she already knew Ran long ago, since she is her self-declared "rival". They met again in a karate tournament's finals, when she lost against Ran.
Personality
She is curious and nice, although when competing against others. She is rather fierce just like Ran and calls her rival "Ranmaru" because it reminds her of the general Mori Ranmaru, who was famous for the line "Overthrow Nobunaga's sycophant".
Appearance
She is of the same height as Ran and has black hair with part of it attached to a band on the left side. She is first seen wearing her high school's karate team's sweatsuit, although normally she wears a jean jacket and a turtleneck. She pratices karate so she could take down an alien if it comes to Earth.
Abilities
Karate
She is the second best karate practitioner in in the Kanto Region for her age group. Her skill is on par with Ran, albeit she has never defeated her. In battle, she can easily take down enemies even when they have weapons like a knife, although she prefers not to knock them out.

Plot overview
UFO Sighting Murder Case (Manga: 942-944, Anime: 847-848)
Hina went to Kogoro's place to ask him to investigate about an UFO sighting case and, along with Ran and Conan, they went to the place where she supposedly saw the UFO, at Haido Park. There, they encounter Chiba, who was investigating a murder case involving possible aliens that occurred at Haido High, just a few drops from the park. In the end, it turns out the murder was done by an alien fanatic having a grudge against the victim and the UFO Hina saw was only a part of his trick.
Non-canon plot overview
The Great Detective Turned Small (TV Special: 6)
As they went to take a walk in Haido Shopping District, Ran and Shinichi witness a crowd and they run there to see what happened. It turns out Hina is confronting a purse snatcher. Then, the thief takes out his pocket knife and tries to stab Hina, but gets subdued. The police then come and the culprit is arrested. Later, at the karate competition, Hina confronts Ran at the finals, but loses against her as usual.
Name origin
Her name, just like the names of the other suspects in her introductory case, is related to celestial bodies[1]. Hina Wada (和田 陽奈) is a reference to the sun (太陽, taiyō / 日, hi). Additionally, it is the name of a real fan of the series who won the occasion to appear in the manga during the Lets Talk with Gosho Aoyama Day 2015.
