Plot overview
The 3 "K"s of Osaka Case (Manga: 293-295, Anime: 238-239)
Heiji invited Conan and the Mouri family to attend the opening ceremony of a restaurant named "K3". The restaurant was opened with the cooperation of three men. The first one is a former world middleweight champion, Ricardo Barreira. The second one is a pitcher who received the 160-kilometre Cy Young Trophy, Mike Norwood. And most importantly, the other owner is Ray Curtis. Since Conan/Shinichi is a big fan of him, Conan thus decided to attend this restaurant opening ceremony no matter what. Ray then explained the connotation of the restaurant name, the three "K"s indicated within the title represent each of the three owners. The first K stands for knock out, namely K.O., which is suitable for middleweight champion Richard. The second K stands for strike out, which is obviously referring to the pitcher Mike. The third K is apparently for himself, which stands for goalkeeper, as if you take the K from keeper. During the Question and Answer activity, Ran decided to ask for an autograph from Ray to give it to Shinichi instead of asking an actual question to Ray. He signed on a jersey of his and offered Ran a ticket to a special match that he will be playing in tomorrow at Nagai Stadium. When Ran shared the special ticket with Conan afterwards, Conan was exceedingly satisfied. Then, Ray requested that Ran do a watchout for him outside the hotel building. Since he was attempting to form a letter "K" by turning on some lights in the hotel rooms, Ray utilised this advantage to fabricate an alibi. He set up a trick beforehand, using a cleaning broom to support a wooden plank. When he kicked the football near the corner of the staircases, the football would hit the broom, letting the wooden plank fall and activating the light switch. This created an illusion that he was always inside the hotel room. Making himself impossible to go upstairs and murder the news reporter Ed McCay, who randomly published fake scandals about him and his wife.
Conan, who tried to investigate the case to prove that no one in the hotel rooms at that time had the opportunity to murder the victim, as Ray is his big idol and he did not believe that he could kill anyone, Heiji looked at Conan and thought: "Kudo, what's with you? You're acting kind of strange". While they were investigating the case together, Conan testified that Ray could not be the culprit for numerous times in front of Heiji, which made Heiji wonder why Conan was acting so strange. Both of them seemed to figure out the trick vaguely, but Conan got mad and roared to Heiji: "That's ridiculous! It's absolutely impossible! And I'll prove it, just you wait!". Heiji went into deep contemplation and remarked at Conan's strange behaviours: "Kudo, weren't you the one who said... Eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth. Isn't that what you said, Kudo?".
Finally, Heiji called Ray to go upstairs and uttered that a great fan of his was wanting to meet him. When Ray walked up, he saw the trick set up being left there and got shocked. After that, Conan began his deduction, he explained how Ray managed to activate the trick as well as the murder of the news reporter. Seeing the truth being revealed by Conan, Ray decided to escape, however, Conan kicked a football towards him to impede him. Surprisingly, he was not able to block it. Conan went into deep desperation, he anti-questioned Ray about why he could not block a simple kick that was taught in high school. Then he confessed that he began to use drugs after the death of his wife. Owing to Ed McCay's slanderous articles, his wife Keiko decided to commit suicide. Ray lured him to Japan and took revenge for his wife. Conan then spoke with him in English, and advised him to turn himself in. Ray also admitted being a "loser" and turned himself in to the Osaka Prefecture Police.
The Shinkansen Transport Case (Manga: 296-298, Anime: 240-241)
The protagonist group was at Shin-Osaka Station. Kogoro was reading a journal paper that had the heading "World Cup Hero Arrested For Homiide". At the same time, Ran's cell phone rang. She heard Shinichi's voice from the speakers. It was evidently Conan who used the voice-changing bowtie to call her. Ran inquired of Shinichi if he knew about Ray's incident. Conan replied that he saw the news in the morning and could not believe it. Ran also talked about Ray's jersey with the autograph she asked for during the opening ceremony. Conan said that is not necessary at the moment, but he would still want her to keep it until he gets home. He said: "No matter what happens, Ray on the pitch is my hero forever".
