The French version of the Yaiba manga was published in France by Soleil Manga, a division of Soleil Productions, contrary to the French translation of the main series, done by Kana. In the beginning of 2006, Soleil Manga announced its intention to publish the series and the first volume was published on January 15th. The first five volumes were published at a regular pace of one volume per month, before the intervals were incremented to one every two or three months. After the publishing of volume 15 in December 2007, releases were put on a hiatus and volume 16 was released in October 2008, resuming releases at a slowed paced of one volume every four to six months. Prices were raised to 6,95 euros in January 2009, with the release of volume 17. Following the release of volume 21 in July 2010, publishing went on a second hiatus, but the publishing house confirmed that the last three volumes will still be published sometime in the future. Volume 22 was finally released in November 2011. In 2012, the editor announced the release of the last 2 volumes of the series in Q1 and Q4 respectively. The series was fully published in September 2012 with the release of volume 24. Prices for volumes 23 and 24 were also adjusted to 6,99. Prices for the original volumes were raised in Q3 2023 to 7,29 euros.
In January 2025, following the May 2024 announcement of a reboot of Yaiba to air in mid-2025, Soleil confirmed the publishing of a new version of the original manga series to start in May 2025. The new version combines two volumes in one that will thus be completed with the release of twelve volumes.
It is translated by Thibaud Desbief and licensed by The Kashima Agency, and distributed by Hachette Éditions. It is printed by Aubin Imprimeur. The translation follows closely the Japanese original version and the covers as well, reprising the style and font of the 2004 reissued Japanese volumes. Some jokes were localized to the French readers, including the pun in chapter 74's title. Read more...
