There, Heiji reveals that Shinichi is actually Makoto, who used plastic surgery to look like Kudou Shinichi. Shirigami-sama steps into the room and is revealed to be Shinichi. After Makoto is arrested, Ran, Heiji, Shinichi, Kazuha, and Kogoro walk back toward the hotel. Before they can reach it, APTX 4869 starts to wear off, and Heiji helps Shinichi escape to the bathroom to change back. Haibara had been hiding there, and she gave Shinichi another antidote. Then, she says to return to Tokyo before he changes back if he wishes to keep his identity a secret. They are eventually led to a movie director's party at the Haido City Hotel where a chandelier falls on someone (Mr. Nomiguchi) while in the dark, thus, ending the episode with who's responsible for the murder. In continuance from the last episode, everyone is wondering how the chandelier fell in the first place. Conan knows it's Pisco of the Black Organization, but the police are stumped. When Inspector Megure can't hold anyone anymore, everyone at the party flees toward the doorway. In the mix of all the commotion, Haibara is kidnapped by someone and confined to a wine cellar somewhere in the Haido Hotel. Conan tells her to drink some sake that will temporary turn her back to an adult to help her escape. Will Haibara be able to escape the clutches of Gin and Vodka? In the conclusion of Conan and Ai's encounter with the Black Organization, Ai is trapped in a building with Gin and Vodka after she is kidnapped by them (previous episode). Now she must try to escape (Ai is in her adult form temporarily), but it won't be easy. She makes her way to the roof only to encounter Gin and Vodka who both shoot her down and almost kill her until Conan arrives on the scene. He uses his special bow tie to sound like an older person who distracts them, as well as shoots Gin with a needle, while she jumps down the chimney and barely escapes death. Gin shoots himself in the arm to keep himself awake while Vodka attempts to shoot Conan, but he escapes. Conan and Ai eventually encounter Pisco back inside, but due to an accidental fire, the two get away before Pisco kills them. Gin and Vodka arrive and Gin kills Pisco without hesitation for failing to finish the job. Near the end of the episode, a new female member named Vermouth discusses the dilemma with Gin and Vodka.

He realized that the message was indicating Naoki, takes a picture of the message, and uses it to extort money from Midorikawa. Conan reveals that Akashi had prepared the room to indicate the murderer to be Midorikawa even if the message was painted over. Conan reveals that the white chair was facing the red wall while the black chair was facing the white wall. This corresponds to chess piece colors where white makes the first move. Conan explains that the message tells a person to look at the red wall then look at the white wall; Doing so causes one to see a green complementary color afterimage which indicates Midorikawa. Midorikawa confesses and explains that he blamed Akashi was Aoi's death since she got a heart attack from frantically searching for a portrait of herself. He reveals that Akashi had painted over the portrait since he lacked the money to buy more painting supplies and had Akashi told her, she would not have died.
